[...] The ground started to split in half, leaving Rey and Ben on the right side of the throne room. There was no way they could reach their ships now. Ben could only hope that Rey knew what she was doing. She had been focusing on the Force for quite some time.
“What did you do?” he eventually asked.
“I called a friend.” Rey smiled. She had sensed Finn becoming more connected to the Force lately. He was scared about his new powers, like she had been, but one day, Rey thought, she would teach him all she knew. For now, she needed to trust in his instincts.
“It’s the storm trooper, isn’t it?” Ben noticed while reading her thoughts.
“It’s Finn.” Rey corrected him.
“Right, sorry.” Rey was flattered by his apology though she did wonder how he knew who she was thinking about. Ben didn’t actively look into her head this time. How could he know that Finn has grown to be force-sensitive?
“Did you just read my mind?”
“N-No. W-What makes you think I did?” Ben sounded surprisingly nervous.
“You just read my mind.” Rey repeated staggered.
“It’s very hard to ignore it when your thoughts are all over the place.”
“You-“
“Since when does he have the Force?” It made him wonder how many stormtroopers could be force-sensitive as well.
“Since when are you so talkative?” Rey gazed.
“Oh, I just have the slight feeling that he’s going to kill me right away.”
“No one’s going to kill you, Ben.” Rey assured him. “I won’t let it happen.” She sounded so confident and yet she was so amused by his concerns that it made Ben even more uneasy. His fate would be decided soon enough anyway. [...]
