[...] Tears forming in her eyes, Rey placed her other hand on his cheek, expecting Ben to be as cold as ice. But instead she found his muscles moving. She couldn’t explain what was happening. The Force felt strangely strong around him, the same it had felt on the wreckage of the old Death Star. Leia. She wasn’t gone. This whole time she had been waiting for her son to truly come back. Rey was confused. Luke had told her that Leia had sensed the death of her son at the end of her Jedi path. But Rey now realised that this didn’t mean that Ben had to die. It would only take Leia one last thing to do to complete her training. And that thing was her sacrifice. She was giving him back his life. Rey felt as Leia finally found peace and became not only one with the Force, but one with her son. The final reunion.

Help me, Ben send his words through the Force. He was unable to speak and Rey began worrying again while Ben only needed her to help him raise himself – his broken ribs have made it impossible to do so alone. So she did, bringing him closer to her. Ben examined every inch of her face, making sure she was okay. His breaths were slow, his chest shaking in pain. Ben’s eyes left hers, concern on his face.
“Rey, I told you…” he whispered, his voice still weak.
“It wasn’t me.”
Ben’s eyes were still wandering around. So, no, this is something else. He knew it wasn’t Rey. He could just not believe it.
“She knew you’d find your way back.” Rey broke the silence without mentioning any name. She didn’t have to.
“She’s gone…” Ben finally said, his breaking voice trailing off. Rey’s hand left his and Ben watched it as she placed her hand on his heart.
“She’s right here.” Her voice was warm. “She’ll always be.” Rey nodded to confirm her words. She was right, Ben thought. He could feel his mother everywhere. [...]
