Description
My girlfriend and I ,in very old and junky clothing, fleshing the first of 3 deer hides done in a row. This is going to be a hair on deer hide when we are done with it.
We are using the two bone fleshers I made earlier.
You can see the meat, fat and membrane coming off of the hide almost in a sheet as we scrape.
Picture taken by my father in our shared back yard.

Just goes to show that sometimes, the old fashioned tools work the best. I wish I had the room to do things like this. Maybe in the future, then I get to try and remember what I learned from your great photos.

I used to flesh mine on a bench made of 18" industrial PVC pipe, then stretch them on the frame. Just easier on my back is all?

I use a fleshing beam for my buckskin. This is a new method that I have tried to keep the hair on. This is very nice on our backs. The beam can wear on me sometimes.

Brain tanning. Probably with egg as the emulsified oil solution. Just easier for me to get my hands on atm. Keep watching when we have them finished there will be pictures.

*nods* sorry about all the questions. I spent part of last week thawing and finishing skinning two does. Used a two handled knife and beam for the fleshing and unfortunately had to return to college before I could tan them so they are dried flat. The hair seems to be fine on the one but the other might end up as a buckskin.
Was originally going to use the brains (because I had them) but decided on eggs simply to avoid digging out brains lol... Might switch to an aluminum tan to set the hair better and hope they don't get wet.
Do you have any plans for the finished hides?
