I think what works the best about this particular piece is the wide variety of textures. At the top, we have the dense, complex rippling of the water, which is tempered by the dark shadow crossing it, and the plain edging surrounding it. The edging, actually, is the only part of the piece I would criticise; I'd argue that it was slightly over-exposed, drawing the focus away from the focal points of the water droplets. On the other hand, the bright light has highlighted the droplets perfectly, and I like the way you've frozen them so perfectly. Then, at the bottom, we've got a return to the busy complexity of the ripples.
Putting it in black and white was definately a good idea; colour would remove a lot of the impact from this picture. Beautifully done!

Yeah, definitely over-exposed on the edge of the fountain. It looked even worse after I put it into b&w... >.< I worked on it for quite a while, but that's the best I could manage with it. Although... I bet my photoshop skillz have improved enough now that I could do a little more with that part...

Well, it can't hurt, I suppose. I enhance all of mine in PS, because as far as I'm concerned it's no different to being able to afford the lenses, filters and darkroom facilities that professionals use.
And hurry up with more obscure references! They're fun

Well, I have to keep this sig for a decent amount of time, you know. I don't want to seem flighty...

Lovely shot. I like how you were able to capture the water spilling over the edge, the little droplets look suspended in air. A still of a moment in time.

this is great. I like the high contrast, the sharp details and the ripples... they make it a little bit abstract.

Pretty! Glad you did it in black and white too. Really brings out the picture and the water.
Like it!

Oh good. It was a bit of a struggle for me to accept the b&w because the original colors were really quite nice, but I think I like this better now.

indeed. And I haven't even gotten to the fishies on top. Although I think I should probably check myself before I have an entire gallery of pictures of one fountain.

Wow! Long time no see, Lester! Thank you for the kind comment; I think we feel similarly about water and that's really what I was going for.
I think it's funny that you guys think it's soothing and warm... It looks pretty harsh to me compared to the other shots that I took that day because made it B&W and upped the contrast to put emphasis on the the light patterns.

hmm, i like the water texture, the shimmering, the fact that its so clear... feels so desolate, and yet very optimistic, calm... soothing in one word

This is a really lovely shot. I love the way the light is reflected on the water, and the fast speed has captured the drops crisply as they fall. The contrast is really lovely aswell, some lovely tones, and even though it's in black and white you still get a sense of the light and warmth of the place, to me anyway. I personally might crop a tiniest smidgen off the top, just a tad (that white drop in the middle of the shadow right at the top keeps drawing my attention) but overall the angle and composition is really good.
Lovely shot Ruth.
