Description
Download for better view. This is mostly how the process looks when I create a page.
Programs I use is CS5 and a medium size wacom intuos: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.co…
1. Rough Sketch.
Is the stage where I plan the layout of the page. I already have the story written down on a script and use that to shape the page.
It also gives me an idea of how much empty space I will need for the speech bubbles.
2. Finer sketch.
It's when I clean up the rough sketch and improve the perspectives and expressions. Makes it easier to get the line-art look nice later.
3. Line-art.
Not much to say here.
4. Flat coloring + putting some colors on the line art.
5. Create the backgrounds.
At this point I also decided to switch places between the first and second panel.
6. Shading.
I create my shadows on a separate layer with "multiply" effect above the line-art layer.
7. Effects.
Add speed lines, blur, blood e.g. Then last I add the dialog and shape the speech bubbles after the text.

I used to have more coloring layers, but these days I keep most base colors on one layer.
Layer effects are quite useful when it comes to shading.
Draw some grey on a separate layer above the others, then change the layer effect from "normal" to "multiply".

I would love to see that if you do. It's always interesting to see how different artist make their comics and pictures.
