It's been months since Sun and Moon released, so this is safe to post now, right?After training up my absolutely gorgeous Meowth, to say I was disappointed by its evolution is an understatement. The in-game graphics make it downright ugly, and there's no getting around it. As much as I tried to continue using it after evolution, eventually I became too appalled to look upon it any longer and into the box it went. Good job, guys. You created a Pokémon I can't even look at in-game.
I knew that the design could have been made into a cohesive, mildly-appealing whole rather than the butchered mess that it is, so I took it upon myself to properly execute the concept. A large, round, flat-faced head and skinny body are the main features while with thinner legs and mischievous eyes further set it apart from its Normal-type counterpart. It wasn't that hard to make a design that doesn't make peoples' eyes bleed, Gamefreak. It really wasn't.

i remember seeing the 3d model in some GO-related content and thought it was just a really shitty model.
only to look at the official 2d art and see it. like the body's already barely drawn all that well, but what the hell happened to the face? there's so much negative space and the face is so unnecessarily round.
official design reeked of amateurity to me.

I cannot fathom what the designer (as well as the rest of the team) were thinking when they allowed the design into the game. I simply hope that they learned from their mistakes and their designs will improve in the future~

So pretty! Wanna pet it! I also didn't look at leaks for quite a while, at least not until I had sun wand was about to get Kysa (my Meowth) to evolve. I am not sure what to think of Alolan Persian. Its moveset, type and colouration is absolutely perfect, but the head... they remind me of crookshanks in that regard. Ran against a wall while evolving and the head stayed that way. But it is also cute... in a strange and distorted way. I really like your design though. Perhaps they could've made it that way, that females have a smaller head while the males have the large head as some sort of "attracting females"-thingy. That would've made sense at least.

I can kinda see the thought process the designer of this form went through, but the execution was downright abysmal. My only hope is that the unanimous negative feedback will deter such choices in the future.

I love this re-design. It matches its feline, cunning nature. I just don't believe that GameFreak make its head round.

This is what I (and basically the entire Pokemon fandom I'm guessing) expected what Alolan Persian would look like. But GF just had to mess everything up. Love the way it looks, fav'd, watched.

I can relate to your story. I even kept myself from spoiling any of the evolutions for myself because I wanted to be surprised... and boy was I! Just not in a good way. The lesson: Don't evolve alolan Meowth.
