Description
Current.I was at the school's Leaver's Service on Wednesday. There were sunflowers on the window, and that - and the bittersweet feeling - lingered, and later transformed into this painting.
I was sad because I was one of the leavers, and I cried a bit here and there, then a lot more when the Year 6's were leaving, before finally bursting into tears for real saying goodbye to the Headteacher. (And no, I'm not a schoolgirl - I'm a teaching assistant!
Anyway, technique: watercolour and gouache on A4 watercolour paper.

How lovely that you got homemade cards! Those are def the best ones.
I know the feeling of leaving ceremonies/days... my recent graduation was a little like that. It was a weird feeling, and though I wanted the day to stay for a long time, I also wanted it to be over quickly...
The sunflowers are great; I really think they are very cheerful flowers. The girl's dress looks a little funeralaic to me... not sure if that was intended, but I think it works with the bittersweet feeling... I guess also the black combined with the window/pale looking wall gives the pic a bit of a continental feeling.

I just really loved the dress on the stock model and couldn't help myself... I know it's a bit gloomy but I just felt like that - happy and sad at the same time.

Wow, when I blew into your gallery today, I tried to see how long it had been since I last checked your stuff out, and the last one that looked familiar was your drawing for easter o_O maaaaaannnnn, I'm behind! sheesh!
anyway, is a Leaver's service some kind of graduation ceremony?
well, this paintings really nice. And I swear, you can make watercolour look like digital! and I like that dress too!
speaking of sunflowers, the ones in my garden were about half as tall as our house a few weeks ago, and I'm sure they're much taller now, except their flowers are so heavy, that they're now leaning over, so unless I straighten them out to measure....anyway, I love watching birds land on the flowers to eat the seeds and squirrels climb up the stems to do the very same <3

Funny enough, I was dreaming of sunflowers last night. The kids at school grew them in their gardening club, so that's why they were in vases everywhere on that day I think.
The Leaver's Service was to say goodbye to Year 6s leaving primary school (they're 10-11 year olds just about to go to secondary school). And yeah, it's as tearful as any graduation - I mean, please, my own high school prom wasn't that dramatic! It's usually just a performance of some sort and then a ceremony with certificates, trophies etc. but since it's a church school they do it properly in the church with prayers, hymns and word from the vicar.
My watercolour might look quite digital-ish just because I'm so used to digital art and yeah I fell in love with the dress too when I saw it on the stock model.

yeah, I went to a catholic school, and EVERYTHING had a church service attached to it...it got quite tedious....
I remember when I was in 5th Grade (age 10-11) and when we moved up to middle school, there wasn't a ceremony of any kind, and a lot of the older kids said that we got gypped, since they had a ceremony (and there was also a party afterward)
yeah, sunflowers are just one of those great things in life...I love the way their seeds spiral out from the centre...

I do, too - and I'd fight your birds and squirrels for the seeds! I love them
We had a tea party after the ceremony too - for Year 6s, their parents, and teachers. Some yummy cakes!
