Description
We're currently at 6 billion and are only 100,000,000 people away from 7 billion

You look at the World Population Meter here and you're saying to yourself everytime it awkwardly raises in number "C'mon, stop, go back one! No, no, you just jumped to 3 people!"
Very uncomfortable.

The facts I derived from a show on Discovery Channel about what would happen to the Earth after Population Overgrowth.

Even if these statistics are mathematically incorrect through your study, this doesn't mean that this is a problem that isn't happening, or will happen.

We need to control our super-massive population and this stamp supports awareness of that.
Take note: I am not telling people to stop having children.
But do some of us really need 10 children to achieve happiness in life? Two children can win your heart, I'm sure. And if you adore children so much - work in a daycare, be a nanny, or for the love of God, adopt.

6 billion is getting a little too cosy.

HELP SPREAD AWARENESS With every person you present these facts to, the more people will give a second thought.
If not by using this stamp, link, advertise, anything. To create change, we must start now.

If you want to watch about it: [link]
It wasn't the one I watched, but it's got chillingly similar statistics.

TL;DR

How the heck are we suppost to support the people who can't support themselves with so many to look after? We still haven't even been able to manage what we have now!!

You know, if you take that entire population and round it up into one area, they can fit inside the state of Texas. Stop pretending the human race is going extinct, please. It's not helping.
Besides, I don't see why myΒ right to breed should be taken away because of the actions of realΒ humans.

The more room we make for people and farm land the less room there is for nature and wild animals. I feel terrible that one day we will be so selfish to destroy it all and the future will no longer see the beauty of nature.

But remember all those 7 billion people DIED and were replaced so we actually have a balance that probably 7 billion people die and are born everydayΒ

Ahhhh you know like , Β ALL those 14, billion people that were born years back , half of them are DEAD so its not like all the people who were born are still alive so it would be impossible to over populate the earth with out Β actually decreasing it ;\

My mother works in an age care facility and they throw out enough food every day to feed 2 average households.
I grew up on a small farm with solar power and the hot water was heated with a fire dammit.. theres no need for all that crazy overused energy wasting technology. I would rather die in the forest then live a long life in some fancy overdone pimp house!

Lol-Horse [2011-08-21 03:30:01 +0000 UTC]

It's scary to think but so very true. I wish more people would realize this and stop having a ton of kids when they don't need them -cough cough, Dugger family-. And with today's advanced technology more people can survive genetic (and non-genetic) diseases and such when a few decades ago those people would have had no hope. I personally believe (and I know it's extreme) that anyone with a serous genetic disorder should not have kids, I don't care if your child will not be affected (they still carry it). There is no survival of the fittest in the human population. Because of this, humans are going to going to eventaully have so many health proplems.

I agree that the population is getting out of hand. However, research has shown that it will reach a stand-still at around 8 billion due to lifestyles and lack of resources.
This is why I'm Pro-choice. There are already enough fucking babies being popped out, and we don't need more unwanted ones as well. If you put them in an orphanage, that just means that they're in competition with others until they get kicked out at the age of 18.

I'm sure you are pretty awesome, girl.... :/
I'm sure 5.999.999.000 people in this world maybe wish that you disappear and leave place for some clever/sensitive/kindness people that perhaps won't type nonsenses anymore.
Earth can support 10-15-25 billion people, this is a fact. Maybe the thing is that you can't resist the idea of lose your "riches" status cause the third world is growing. You better erase that cruel stamp, girl. Long time ago the nazi ideology about extermination was really forbidden. And I say "extermination" cause you are NOBODY to tell the mankind to stop reproduce in any way, quantity and terms that people has decided to create their family. So if you want to stop the growing population, your only way is to claim for extermination, yes the nazi way to keep the high and rich class race. Or maybe the good God you mentioned grants your wish and makes of you an sterile woman soon... just for the Earth profit, of course. Or maybe your country grants the killing of thousand people just declaring stupid wars just for those resources you are crying for: water, petroleum, gas, coal, farmland, that is?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irradiation In reply to Chocolettine [2011-03-21 07:50:23 +0000 UTC]

Can you please source your fact? I'd just like to know. Regardless if it's better or worse than my source, it'd help me average out my sources.

I don't dare exterminate. I'm talking about controlling our birth-rates considering how rapid we are multiplying, how children are encouraged to be had excessively - 6, 7, 10 children?
No way did I suggest extermination. I said maintain.

PCOS sufferer, no desire for children :/ Doesn't mean I don't respect another woman's wish for a child.

P.S. I'd appreciate you didn't have to be derogatory, I can take your side of the argument just like others who have challenged it without that rubbish. I'm more than happy to adjust my facts than to be just labelled as stupid. What's that going to achieve from you than make you feel more intelligent? Take it like I am, get to the point, not to the name calling.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chocolettine In reply to irradiation [2011-03-22 10:36:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, answering to your request, I can tell you the source of my fact is exactly National Geographic. Long time ago they published one article about Earth resources, and the point was: "We still haven't a meassure about Earth total capacity, but probably our planet can feed around 40 billion people". So yes, they estimated the Earth is able to keep us all well-feeded for the coming generations and far beyond.
I agree, I have been rude and agressive, and I apologize, but I don't remember to have called you "stupid" and I didn't type I were more intelligent than you. I asked you to leave place for "clever/sensitive/kindness people that didnt type nonsenses anymore."
Again I apologize, I'm agressive again, but don't you say or imagine words I didn't say.
Apart of this, I cannot agree with you. Your source is Discovery Channel. So, as a Tv program shows alarm, future devastation and resources extintion just cause population is growing, then you don't stop to think about it and analize the truth or the political interests behind that program. You inmediately claim for people to stop reproduce in a quantity higher than 2 children just for some hypothetical scarcy resources.
Again, I cannot agree with you. I think the clever/sensitive/kindness way is to claim for education, to claim for health care, to claim to stop tyranny-dictatorial governments that keep their people living in the ignorancy/darkness only to have a dominated population that obeys like blind sheeps.
Look. I'm not talking from the side of any fervent-religious ideology or anything like this. I don't care about God, Yahve, Allah, Budda, Sinto etc etc. I only think about Nature. And don't seems like Nature is against expansion of species. I think Nature is against uncontrolled contamination, deforestation, against desertification and so on. And of course, fight against all these things if to fight against ignorance, poverty, injustice, illness, hunger... When all these things start to be solved (look, I say "start", not "totally solved", we only need a simple start) and the human dignity and self-security is granted, then the same mankind can recognize the own and basic needs, even for 40 billion people.
So the point is no to stop growing. The point is, within our capabilities, to get everybody will be able to make a choice, to have an option about how they want to extend their chromosomes. I don't need to ask you to remember that you have the same rights for a good live/education/riches and health than the 9th son of a large family in Indonesia, Sierra Leona or Peru.
This is my point of view.
And, as this letter is growing (just like the people on Earth), I will stop here. If you want to talk about Earth resources and the waste we (the first world and our stupid wars) make of them, we can continue in a next message.
Again sorry for my rudeness, but I really got pissed off when a young girl, with the means at her disponsal to make big things, types the first news from Tv, without thinking. And don't you say you thought about that, because you didn't.

Starlow-FTW [2011-03-20 15:28:30 +0000 UTC]

Population growth is exponential. In industrialized places like North America, Europe, and Russia (even China), fewer kids are had than in developing places like India, Mexico, Africa, other parts of Asia, ect.

And putting a limit on the number of kids a family can have...you want a revolution? It would be bloody if you did that in the United States, no matter what evidence you gave the people. Besides, like I said, industrialized places are not the problem....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irradiation In reply to Starlow-FTW [2011-03-21 08:07:24 +0000 UTC]

Exponential - that's the word I was looking for!
Yeah, the dispersement of people is complicated.

I can't understand just yet why things have to end up being bloody. If there was any way to stop that happening..

I just feel with the advent of the Internet, things don't have to be that way, we gotta inspire ourselves to be better people. Does it have to be impossible that the human race is vengeful towards eachother? :/

Starlow-FTW In reply to irradiation [2011-03-21 20:11:35 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. It's really sad. I don't really care if people hate each other's guts in the world, but it's shameful that they can't come together. Even nations like America are so divided that, when there's a problem, the American people and leaders don't come together to solve it.

irradiation In reply to Titanium-Zen [2011-03-23 08:23:03 +0000 UTC]

Definitely right. The UK is a great example - and it's in a well-developed country!
Yeah, but I mean with the medicine companies being so tight with the pills they make because of the formulas. I just feel that we are gonna run out of good stuff if we're all putting our stuff in for landfill. I understand why they do that, but we're no doubt expending more than we can return. Food, medicines, materials, forms of power.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

irradiation In reply to EmoberryStudios [2011-03-20 05:17:50 +0000 UTC]

Great question

My recommended first step is to alert others. This can be done passively or through endorsement. Passively would be like what this Stamp is - presenting that you support the situation without telling it to them yourself. Endorsement is a lot stronger, as it involves being direct with people, and telling them about the cause, and to encourage telling other people about it too.

Just like how I told you about these facts, and have become swayed by it, I have brought awareness to control Overpopulation to one person (plus, the other people who have seen this/commented). If you, or any one else who was moved by the statistics, decided to alert other people, chances are, you WILL pass this information to someone else, and move them also! It's a chain effect.. and also a multiplying effect. Today you changed the minds of 2 people, tomorrow those two each influence 2 people, thus making 4 people in one day then 8 then 16. This being, you give them the same message that awareness spreads like this, and you tell them to pass it on, then it's almost foolproof.
In time we can reach 1,000 people per pair, and those 1,000 can reach 2,000! And this hasn't included all the other before it!

I'm planning to blog and Youtube this info. The more people gathered, the awareness of this will grow. We can influence our governments, and even better now since the advent of technology.

This is something that will involve my future. I'm 16 now, and I don't dare imagine myself scavenging for resources in 50 years.
