There is this guy I know who made a character based off himself. He called his cliché soul-eater character with weapons galore and impossible outfit - Scythe.
Yes. It was cheesy not to mention totally Gary Stu.
Frankly...incredibly annoying character who was apparently indestructible and can take on 50 ninjas at once. No joke, this character is for real.

And he draws him all the time. Heck he even drew himself as a wolf and bragged about how awesome he looked.

But you know what?
It's ok.

For some of us:
- Our artworks focus and theme is personal.
- It's a means of escape from the real world.
- We don't know who else to draw.
- We are too shy to draw someone else we know or create our own characters.
- We admire ourself and are confident.

So why is it so bad?

Even it has been speculated, that the Mona Lisa was drawn of Leonardo Da Vinci's own likeness [link] [link]

Why we draw ourselves, must mean soemthing. Take it as a snapshot into our mind.
