Description
Cover Art of Mega Man X: Unit 49 's Second Season. The first one can be found here and is also the starting point of the story. The idea came from a sketch while I was bored in a Vector Analysis class. It took some time to draw with the mouse over the pencil scribbles and will take some weeks to turn it into a complete artwork. Since I probably won't be able to finish it this semester, I'm leaving it here. All of the characters are in their newest designs, not the ones currently shown in the comics. Radar Unit Ying (his armor resembles more the chinese culture) and Keros (he's more like Raijin now) have been redesigned, although their looks might not be the final versions. Illusion and Red Thunder should be getting a visual update this year, but I haven't come up with any ideas yet.
The display of the characters has a bigger meaning this time, and some of them I can't tell. Two streams come from the center: X and the Maverick Hunters behind him; The Neo Maverick Army begins below the hands of the Mysterious Man with Saturn seemingly pulling the strings, although the mercenary Baronel is aware of that. Councillor Raffould watches with a strange enthusiasm the spiral of the war forming and raises the Earth Army.

Thanks! I usually don't try making ambitious arts like this, but when I do, I stay in front of my computer for a whole day working on it... That's bad for health I think.

Awesome pic, this must have taken ages to draw. It came out amazingly, well done.

Thank you! It took me three or four days to make this mouse sketch, but it will take eons to make the actual linearts, painting, shading and making it look the way I want. If I don't make it, at least you guys can see I tried xD
Not to count that I still have another artwork that dwarfs this and must be finished until the end of the comic series. Hopefully, it will be worth it.

Wow that's alot longer than I could probably put in it. I look forward to the finished version of this and the other artwork you have planned, Saturn.

looking awesome
drawing anything with a mouse is such a pain though. i dont think i could even make anyhow decent lines with it anymore

I had a digital drawing tablet of some obscure brand for this kind of thing (the only thing I remember finishing with it is this ), but somehow its drivers went nuts in an irreversible way and now I might need to buy a new one or format my computer. I think I'm getting used to drawing with the mouse now, but the amount of times I need to Ctrl + Z things is enormous.

i see. that's strange... did you try uninstalling and re-installing the drivers? if that didn't help then i really don't know what would.
i have a wacom myself, intuos 4. it's very good and i can recommend but they tend to be a little expensive i guess. though, i've had that one for quite long now, 6-7 yrs and i'm hoping it'll last for another six years
wait you've done all others with mouse? i guess having a sketch under helps but still. i couldn't do that. i don't really have the patience and i'd give up. especially since i already hate my art enough so it just wouldn't work out

I make most of my drawings with the mouse, but since Mega Man characters are very geometrical, the Line/Curve and Shape tools are predominant. I save the brush tool to make the faces and small details since my hand is unable to make consistent lines in larger scales (you can notice in this sketch, since most of the drawings were made purely with the brush).

i see. that makes sense i suppose. drawing lines with free hand is a real pain. i actually used to use the paths tool in gimp to make lineart. basically you click spots where the line will go and tweak them to make curves and such and then make it draw it out for you along the path.
nowadays since i updated to gimp 2.8 finally i now have a stabilizer and am trying to practice making lineart with just by brush. it's not going all that well . though i may just switch to completely digital painting technique where it really doesn't matter as much

I tried to use GIMP once but I failed miserably, because it seemed even the most basic things weren't intuitive and I took like 20 minutes to learn how to make a selection and drag things. Paint.NET has several limitations (the curves can be defined by only four points, for example), but it's far more practical for what I do. By the way, the last bone of the wings and the edges in the arms and legs are crooked, but the rest seems fine. Is that a Maverick?

gimp is a little bit, well. ...what it is. i've just gotten used to it since i've used it for about 10 years now. i have tried paint.net too but it didn't do enough for what i needed. and i was already so used to gimp so i stuck with it. but well, as long as it works for what you do it's good. that's the most important thing.
and yeah, i know they're a bit like that. the tail feathers need a little fixing too. and the left lower leg a little. that happens when trying to draw longer straight lines by hand. i'll try fixing them tomorrow though. anyway thanks
it was a boss concept for my game. it does look a bit maverick-ish, or megaman like, despite the game not being one. still, the art style has ended up a bit similar with the animal robots. i don't mind it at all, since i like the style.
it's an oil griffin. the neck, middle body and some other parts are tubes, which are see through and there's oil in them. i want to see if i can make it look good. or i might fail. not sure. liked the idea though.
it would go well for a maverick too i suppose. most of the ones i got planned would be. around half i guess
