Description You know the ones I mean, you set off with a bright idea and a perfect plan, then when you get there, the suns gone in an hour early and the thing your waiting for is an nearly an hour late. So all you can do is walk the 2 miles back down the hill, or use your experience and set the camera to what you think is best and wing it.

Fifteen second high speed steam, It might just work..

The Scarborough flyer making up for lost time, taken with a ridiculously long exposure in near total darkness. Crossing Uppermill Viaduct in Oldham where electricity is a new concept.

No HDR was used in this shot, it's just brightened slightly.

Same train, two years earlier, amazing how different it is now.

You did well!

(I'm impressed with how little noise there is. Is that generally the case with that camera?)

The A550 works very well at noise reduction, I use it on speeds up to iso 1600 without much problem.

Do you shoot jpg or raw? I read the review of the camera at dpreview.com, and they didn't like the camera's handling of jpg. I need a new didital camera (but can't afford one) - the Olympus C750UZ I'm using is seven years old. I've actually been very happy with it.

I've not seen a review at all since Sony stopped production, I shoot both and only play with the RAW when I don't like the jpeg, which isn't as often as I thought it'd be.

It's a positive review really, I bought the Sony because of the in body Image stabilization and the fact it didn't have an annoying movie mode, and I've been very impressed with the camera, every shot on this gallery for the last two years has been taken with it.

Well winged! without the explanatory text I would have been tempted to say it wa a photo of a Japanese Bullet Train. Except they have almost no countryside - just mountains and cities!

Thanks

There's also quite a lot of steam visible over head

Without countryside, what's the point in that ? Steam and green every time

I'll make your trip sound awesome, The other day I went to photograph trains ended with: No trains, and a painful shoulder after I slipped and fell on a wet sidewalk.

Though I did get some nice photos of a switch, I did make good use of those...

The things we do to keep the hobby going I can directly link three cases of flu and a two broken bones to rail photing.

It's better than standing on the end of platforms waiting for hell to freeze over tho

The snow is later every year I've been doing this, the Yuletide specials are always wet and windy

More visible smoke, less people getting in the way, pretty snowy landscapes.
