"Taking after 's epic image (in more ways than one), is this shot from the rear of LNER Class K4 2.6.0 61994 "The Great Marquess", emptying three cylinders worth of condensate through her drain cocks upon departure from Buckley Wells sidings at the start of her day on the East Lancashire Railway, Bury, UKBlack & White Version.

Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
There is a reason why this image has 62 faves, and this is what that reason is. What has been captured here is an almost quintessentially timeless shot, had it been in B&W it could have well been taken in the golden age of steam. Despite all of the displaced condensate on the scene here, the locomotives outline is very much visible, and one can see everything that's going on in the cab, all captured with a nicely timed shot and with brilliant sharpness and composure. Despite this, the subject has been tackled before, so originality is lower by default, but impact more than makes up for that and the technique of shooting from behind the loco really paid off. A truly excellent photograph with plenty of merits to it's record.

The steam alone takes me. This is such a dynamic picture using so little. Something mundane has become surreal, almost epic despite the daily drudge the conductors go through. Amazing shot sir, madam!

EPIC INDEED! This was the view for me from a bridge overlooking the hampstead to richmond line in London(UK) Wonderful natural vignette with the steam, but no hint of soft-focus... all-in-all an accomplished pic!, bravo!
Peter.
