mhmmm.. yeah, you could see it like that too... but with kansas i would rather link sunflowers...
but, i think i mixed it up with australia, you know the yellow signs with a kangoroo...

hahaha, i don't think there is a "typical shot of the usa" just like there isn't a "typical shot of germany"...but this is probably a typical shot of kansas at least

This /is/ a great shot. The sign looks so forlorn, an almost ominous, ya' know? I like it lots. ;D

Really makes you believe the sign.
Great contrasts.
Did you take any horizontal in wide angle as well or just this one? (not trying to take away from this one - its fantastic, i'm just wondering if theres more)

there are a few more, but there were about 10 people waiting on me so i had to really hurry.
i got a few verticals, and a few horizontals. but i wanted the sign on the right side of the photo, and so if i were to have included more of the stuff on the left side, it would have been a house that wouldn't have fit in with the rest of the photo. thus i went vertical.
thank you for commenting and !!!

Nice one, Isaac. Thought it may well have been in Oz before I checked where you're from; the scenery is very similar in parts! I think this could really work well in black and white, or even better, sepia. Just to convey a little more of an aged and withered feel...

hahaha, didn't think about oz, but you're totally right. the dead plants look like they're from oz!
i tried black and white, but it didn't work near as well as i thought it would. hmm, i could try sepia! yeah i will do that as soon as i get the chance!

Love this... the angle of the sign makes the photo brilliant.

yes indeed, i contemplated that, it would definitely fit into that category, but i think that, since it also depicts a landscape behind it, that i would classify it under landscape

I definitely appreciate it... because I know the amount of work that goes into making a great image, both at the camera and often later
