SPOILERS MAYBE? IDKffffff I are geeking out hard over this movie. (Uploaded a couple days ago to 's lovely spam party.
Prince Naveen from Disney's "Princess and the Frog" Royal Family Tree.
LOLOL Besides arguing how NOTblack!!!1 Naveen is, people also argue about what the heck kind of fictional country Maldonia really is, if he's SpanishPortugueseBrazilian something (based on his accent) or ArabicIndianMorrocoAlgerian something (based on his facial features and name). LOLHAY HOW ABOUT HE'S ALL THESE BEAUTIFUL THINGS, GUISE? :3

Not to mention he's a great character with an actual personality yayyyy
Even if it's haphazard, it has some interesting potential for backstory.

Maldonia is his "country" but it's a specific dialect of Italian--its descended from Italian the same way Gallego is descendant from Spanish (its considered part of the language but has its own mannerisms).
So Disney--in order to save time and probably money on animation--took the dialect and made it a "country", so they wouldn't have to research what specific royalty would wear in another country during the Roaring Twenties.
It's something authors do everyday.
But safe to say, Naveen is just a very sexy Italian...slash Mediterranean..hope this was helpful to you :}

I love your interpretations of Naveen's lineauge...especially the way you combined cultures of both Spanish/Brazilian and Arabic/Morrocoan...it is very beautiful and I love the clothing and how exotic/elegant it is, wonderful work!

I love this drawing Isaia. Your style of sketched drawing combined with semi-formal portrait is just beautiful. Naveen certainly comes from one dashingly good looking family.
Personally, I agree with your assumption on the Prince's background being ArabicIndianMorrocoAlgerian something, theorizing that the Kingdom of Maldonia is located in Northern Africa. I also believe it's a possibility that the country has a strong Spanish or Portuguese influence from ancient times, when Europeans started exploring/trading with the African continent.
Another thing; will you continue with the royal family line, including Princess Tiana and their kids? That would be just amazing. 'Specially with Tia's natural beauty and Naveen's handsome features.

Apparently, in some of the extras, some guys working on the movie said that "Maldonia" is a combination of Malta and Macedonia. That gives us a little bit of a better idea where the inspiration for Naveen's mixed look came from.

Well I know that the guy that does his voice is from Brazil, but he has more of an Arab/Indian look to him.
