The story for all, from the players:
Nyacelil (right) and Nim Elen (left), along with three others nearby but not pictured (Faelon, Nim Elen and Faelon's adopted sister Eina, and family friend known as "Silence"), have just vanquished a powerful fey-ri (demon-elf) and stopped him from completing a dark ritual upon the altar behind Nim Elen. The setting is an old and haunted fortress of the Hyshaanth family, within which Nyacelil traces her paternal ancestry.
The sword that Nim Elen holds was found in a hidden vault compartment within the altar that required the combined patient skills of Nim Elen, Eina and Silence to detect and unlock. Nim Elen, recognizing the sword as something very rare, potentially dangerous, and very possibly a significant artifact of Nyacelil's family heritage, has taken it up to safeguard it and see it, undrawn, to Nyacelil's possession and examination.
Nyacelil, with considerable knowledge of history and magic, recognizes all of those aspects of the sword and more, but that much further study still will be needed to fully understand the treasure they have found.
Nim Elen's emotions rise as she watches Nyacelil conduct her first examination, and Nyacelil expresses her wonder with the softspoken greeting, "Hello, sword ..." Their quest together to seek tangible relics and records of Nyacelil's heritage, begun in the first hour of their first day of meeting, has lasted 47 years and until now led, despite great risk and toil on one prior expedition, only to an empty abandoned vault.
Such disappointment was not so this day, however, for the sword, "Descending Silver", a priceless sentient elven bane blade guided by the resident spirit of Nyacelil's bladesinger ancestor, was the find of a lifetime ...
