Description
Just proof that I am, in fact, still chipping away at things. This time I did something a little different. This is clipped straight out of my workbook, the only modification was changing the background color (I work on black). This gives you a peek at the process for how I create sprites as there are several here that are in various stages of development. The most raw is the blacksmith in the center of the bottom row - simply roughed out shapes right now. This is how all of my totally custom sprites begin life, simple shapes to give me a general idea of form and pose.
You can see that I haven't decided what to do with the blacksmith yet, either. I'm a little weird and insist on each class having its own pose - no duplicates within a game's worth of classes. I don't mind reusing the same base model/pose for, say, cavaliers of different games, but within one game's set I won't use the same exact pose twice - similar poses are fine as long as there are some notable differences.
Fates, like Awakening before it, throws me a curve ball as many of the classes share the exact same battle animations. The fighter line and the oni savage line all share the same basic postures. In fact, pretty much all dismounted axe users in these games share the same postures. This causes me no shortage of grief as I refuse to simply modify the same sprite a dozen times to create the various classes from the game. Thus the attempts at the blacksmith. We'll see. I don't like either I've started so I'll probably go a completely different route. (Probably redo the oni chieftain too since that's too static for such an aggressive and dynamic class.)
The master ninja at the far right represents a sprite that I'm almost done with but still not happy with. His hands and face blend together and his arms (thanks to the master ninja's needlessly complicated and most likely cumbersome armor) don't read well. As much as I like this pose, I think I'm actually going to start over completely.
Finally, this may answer some of your kind requests that I animate these sprites: you can see from this that I don't create them in layers. These are all done in MS Paint. Yes. Paint. I'm not a professional, and never intended to animate these, thus each one is a finished, single-layer sprite. Animating them would require a significant amount of work thanks to how I do my spriting.
Anyhoo, thanks for reading and for following me. More to come eventually. I promise!

Your spriting skills are very impressive. I'm quite anxious to see more Fates sprites, and considering how challenging some look, I wish you the best of luck in spriting them.

Thank you. Sadly life has gotten in the way of my spriting as of late. Don't know when I'll get back to it.

Aah, I remember when I used to make stuff like that for GBA Fire Emblem too.
Also, that other guy who commented: "So basically the legit version of the "X hours in MS Paint" meme? lol". To me that just sounds like they've never seen anything in their life. Hahaha.

Yeah Master Ninja outfit is quite impractical looking. How do they not accidentally stab themselves with those arm blades.
For Blacksmith how about having them holding the weapon in front of them with the other hand holding the head of the club? With the standing posture of the right one?
