This huntsman pestered me by hovering above my LCD monitor about a foot from my face on several occasions.He/she killed two large whitetails and a fellow huntsman (most likely after some baby-making).
I finally released it outside as it was getting hungry and there were no insects inside anymore as she'd/he'd eaten them all.

They don't like when it is windy, so they go inside and they can crawl into the tiniest cracks

She was sbout as big as the palm of my hand from side to side if she was spread out. In the position she is in, probably about 14cm across

If you think that is bad, I left my underwear on the bathroom floor when I was having a shower one time.
I went to put them back on, and a huge female whitetail fell out.
That was about 15 years ago.

Gosh! I have NEVER seen this one! How were you able to handle it when taking it outside once the bugs were gone? Is this one venomous? What are white-tails?
For some reason, looking at this thing gives me the creeps. I will have to get used to it!

This lovely lady is not dangerous to us- I have not heard of someone being bit by one, but here is some more information.

White tails are damned menace. They are aggressive and love to hide in your clothes, when you drop them on the ground to have a shower

I got bit by one and after a week had a serious infection in my leg. Very painful!

I am so sorry about your being bitten by a white-tailed. How long did it take for you to recover from the serious infection? What was your experience like when you first got bitten?
Are there some things that you can do to keep these spiders out? Kind of like ' preventive measures '?

It took about 3- 4 weeks for the swelling to completely dissipate.
When I first got bitten it felt like a sharp sting and that is what alerted me to something wrong.
It didn't hurt after that- I cleaned it with antisceptic. It took about one week to get swollen and then after another week it became unbearable with burning insistent pain that wouldn't go away, even with a ice pack on it for hours.
Anti biotics worked the trick- you see it isn't a flesh eating venom, it is the bacteria from the spiders bite that causes the problems.
Spiders can get in via the tiniest holes. Your house would have to be completely hermitically sealed for it to be effective.

From one side to the other it was about 10-12 cms I think. We get some really big ones though. Lots of bugs for them to eat!
