Description This huntsman pestered me by hovering above my LCD monitor about a foot from my face on several occasions.
He/she killed two large whitetails and a fellow huntsman (most likely after some baby-making).
I finally released it outside as it was getting hungry and there were no insects inside anymore as she'd/he'd eaten them all.

I have found a new spider to replace him/her.
It looks like a black widow but is infact a Black Window spider. I think this is why I have no bugs at the moment.

I am glad it is less dangerous than the white tail spider. I got bit by one of them (and a really teeny one at that) and ended up with a subcutaneous infection that needed antibiotics. That stung pretty badly even with ice on it constantly.

OMFG i know exactly what you mean-my bro got bitten by one too and it was the most hideous looking bite ever...he said it felt like his foot was on fire constantly and he ended up freezing one of his GF's fluffy slippers and wearing that around PMSL!!! she wasnt happy as he had to cut the toe part off so his foot would fit TEEHEEHEE
did yours scar? after his went down all he had was a tiny puncture mark and a few scratching scars!

Mine didn't scar. I guess I was lucky. The little bugger was in my bed and bit me just above the back of the knee and just below probably because it got caught or something. I was worried about large scale scarring from the deep infection that developed. It wasn't on the surface- is what I mean, but kept getting bigger until I started on the antibiotics.

Mine took about a week to get really bad.
At first it stung and I put antiseptic on the bite and everything seemed fine.
After about a week, it swelled up. It burned and itched exceptionally badly, so I took myself to Emergency after a sleepless night and asked for help at 5am on a Friday morning.
I think I was more entertained by the fact I was the only patient there, than by the infection in my leg, but they drew a circle in pen around the swellings, which were about 20 circumference on my lower leg and about 10 on my upper, and was told if the redness went outside the zone, I was to come back to emergency immediately. They gave me antibiotics and I think about a week later it was much better.
For months afterward, the skin felt different there, like it was smoother than elsewhere, but if there were other side effects I didn't notice.
I was also dealing with sciatica and celiacs disease, so any consequential pain or symptoms, was most likely attributed to all the other stuff going on.

A huntsman.
They only come inside when it is windy.
Of course they hover over doors as lots of insects go back and forth.
They scare away the white tails- which are poisonous, but don't bite people.

That's awesome! I love spiders; they are so fascinating. I tried to get some pictures of one this morning, but forgot my camera was set to full manual mode, so the exposure was entirely off! This is a really great capture, though, of a magnificent spider. Thank you for sharing!

Holy Moly, I hate spiders if they're bigger than a money spider!

I'd have literally shat myself if I'd seen that.

Well after a while you get used to them being big...at least this one didn't bite me- A teeny tiny white-tail bit me and a week later I was in the emergency room with a massively swollen leg...it would have been 100th the size of the huntsman

Nameda In reply to iscriptikus [2008-07-20 19:06:01 +0000 UTC]

ugh that sounds bad, but yep in some countries the small ones are the most dangerous like black widow and brown spider

I'd probably die if I saw one that big. This is a really cool picture though. Im not a huge fan of spiders, but it would be a nice reference photo to use.

Wow!

I like the spider's here better, they are smaller!
But, I do that kind of thing too, letting them do their thing. I release bugs outside too!
