Description Long time ago I saw a dream where deer’s hide was ”alive” and moved every time no one was looking at it. I draw a moose’s hide just because it is bigger and more freaky.

I want to wear it like a coat!
But first I need to get rid of the fresh blood, into the drying cabinet ye hell spawn!

Just don't get smothered by that possessed hide.

It's a hugger?
Better pass then, I can deal with demonic possession, hugs however, not so much.

Pretty much, smothering and goring with horns are seemingly it's only ways to do harm.

This kind of reminds me of a short horor story written by lovecraft (rip) called the color out of space.  See what I mean? orig00.deviantart.net/17da/f/2… I found the story quite terrifying! XD  Have you read it? If you never heard of Lovecraft before and prefer horror stories in a psychological point of view I can strongly recommend love craft btw.

Seems like you "suffer" a lot from scary (artistic) dreams because this isn't the first time you draw stuff from your nightmares.

IsisMasshiro In reply to SHhiro [2017-11-20 08:26:56 +0000 UTC]

I haven't read it, mostly because I don't like to read long texts in english. Gives me headaches. XD

I do, even tho it isn't actual suffering. Those dreams are just really interesting and they give many ideas.

Eerie (and icky) portrait!  Couldn't find anything about deer/moose hides, but there are obscure legends of quasi-living animal skins.  I've been crowding comment sections recently, so I'll just put a few such tales on my blog, if anyone's interested:

wondrousportal.blogspot.com/20…

. . . the more I look at the moose, the more determined I am to find a cervine hide story somewhere.  One used as a Skinwalker hide?  Would that make a Windigo?

Hmmm...*takes a look* Interesting stuff right there. Is there actual lores about living hides? Like the hides themselves, not about things under the hides.

Amarok59 In reply to IsisMasshiro [2017-11-18 01:30:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm afraid the little bits and pieces of folklore lurking around the edges of more "ordinary" legends have been all I can dig up, and some of those are kind of assumptions (i,e., the "rug" from Between Two Worlds sure as heck sounds like an animated hide!).  If someone encountered a living hide, would they even know what they were looking at?  And if it could float, like your moose . . . I wonder about all those "ghosts-that-look-like-a-sheet-draped-over-someone", so familiar from Casper and other cartoons.

What if human skins could move by themselves?  And . . . do things . . . if they cornered someone?  I'm put in mind of a weird story I was told as a student of 9 or 10 years (and I am crowding your comments section this time, I'm afraid).  When I attended Hoover Elementary School in Oklahoma, I ate lunch occasionally with a boy whose father was a police detective.  The boy would gleefully outline the gory details of major crimes committed in the Tulsa area.  There was one case, however, that stumped him, his detective dad, and the whole police department.

A young woman had been found murdered in her home.  Her throat had been cut, her wrists bound together, and her body had been hung from a coat hook on a closet door.  The crime was a classic locked-room mystery.  As I recall (and it has been many years since I heard the story), the circumstances precluded suicide, all the doors (and windows, if there were any) had been secured from the inside, and, of course, no one but the dead woman was to be found when the police entered.

The capper was this:  Something – I would assume flakes of skin – had been found on the underside of the door that didn’t come from the victim.  According to my lunchtime pal, it looked to all involved as if the killer had entered the room under the door like some kind of huge slug.  This was supposed to be a deep, dark secret lest the populace fly into a panic, but the old man just had to blab it to his son, who blabbed it to me (and no telling who else).

And how did the killer get out?  My friend paused in eating his ham and cheese sandwich and shrugged.

“He went down the toilet for all they know.”

Why I keep thinking one old X-files episode where was one murderous dude who did squeese his whole body trough really tight places...And the end of that story, I bet that creeper hoped they have flushed the toilet. XD

Dwarf Fortress has reanimating hides. Apparently an accident in development, left in because it makes about as much sense as reanimating skeletons.

Good idea though.
