i love the way she's looking at something that's beyond the drawing. Β not a face you'd expect to be medusa (or something very similar). great!

I love how balanced and structured this image is, yet the cardinal and sideways glance of the figure add a sort of excitement - very inspiring!

what you make with lines is incredible because you get many intensities of gray, also
her expression is great for the topic because she looks innocent and sweet but with some hidden intentions. I cant believe it's ink it's too neat.
arrrg! I can't make good comments on english!

Lovely, If I were with her, I would purify every snake out of her head into hair. Shiny, glimmering white hair.

I think the drawing is very well done, it's beautiful. The only thing is i don't see the concept of euphoria as a state of mind back in this drawing.
Off course everybody looks at it in his own way so it's probably me.
To explain... As euphoria has a positive feel to it i do not get the snakes, the somewhat dead look in her eyes and the naked breast. Although as a whole it's appealing for the eye, i just do not get the symbolism.
Please do not get me wrong i like the drawing and do not want to offend you.

Sure, I get what you mean. I guess part of the thought was that although one can be euphorious on the inside, does not mean it shows on the outside. Snakes are related to transformation, creative forces, sexual desires etc. The bird is more a symbolism of freedom and flight of the mind.

I really enjoy this picture. I think the snakes that you placed in the hair really puts a lot more into the image than what's just there.
Can you tell me what your interpretation of Euphoria means?

IT-Hammar In reply to TrifectGuitarist [2012-10-06 15:18:53 +0000 UTC]
Well, euphoria according to the dictionary is: a feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness. But there are always different sides to everything. Snakes can be symbols for both creative energy, transformation and desires, among other things. Birds are related to flight, maybe flight of the mind? And of course also freedom.

When I first saw this it reminded me of the novel She by HR Haggard. There's an effortless nobility and power to her. Rather than 'euphoria', though, I see a tenseness - indignation? - in the set of her face.
I particularly like the detailed folds and shadowing, and the translucence, of the wrap. I agree with the comments on the finch (cardinal?) that have already been made. There is a fluidity and depth in the rest of the piece that the bird lacks.
Regardless of the motion I personally get from it, she is -gorgeous-. Good job, you!

Glad you enjoyed it. The bird is drawn like that partly to give it a different feel than the rest of the drawing. Almost like it isn't really there, just in her imagination.

Not only. Snakes also represent dual expression of good and evil, creative life force, sexual desires, and transformation like rebirth. Glad you like it.

I was really quite interested to see this in my deviwatch box, as the face I feel is really quite different from what you usually do. Usually your depictions of people (or people-like beings) are quite realistic in the sense of proportions. Take, for example, Nubere Piscis or one of my personal favourites, The Rapture of the Muse .
Here, however, you have chosen to enlarge the eyes and emphasise peachy lips. And I really quite like the effect. It truly works well with the concept of "euphoria", I believe.
On the note of the eyes, I must comment on those little bottom eyelashes I see- they are just so perfect! They work very well with the lines under her eyes, which may have otherwise appeared as heavy bags. I really really love that you included these under-eye lines- they are there on every person, but rarely seen in pictures. I know that whenever I try to draw they make the eyes look quite tiered, so that you have included them here without tired-looking eyes for me really speaks of your success.
The second reason I was suprised to see this artwork come from your hands was her hair. Again, I think that mostly you draw hair quite realistically, using subtle lines to emphasise strands within a mass of hair. Here, you have chosen to use strong lines to emphasise larger strands of hair. And again, I really love the effect. This works so well with her facial features to create a semi-realistic character who wholly encompasses the semi-real feeling of euphoria!
Regarding the finch?, I would somewhat agree with something someone else has already commented. The finches head is spectacular, your shading has really made it appear that the bird is turning its head towards the viewer. However, that whiter patch of its body, and the legs also, look a bit flat in comparison. I think it's that, in comparison to the rest of the picture, the tonal range of the bird is not as large, i.e. it might need some darker areas? Or it might be that its lines are quite soft in stark contrast to the bold lines of her hair.
Nonetheless, I just want to communicate how fantastic your drawing technique is. I really could go on forever with any of your artworks, talking and praising all those little details and areas where your technique shines, but I'm aware that your comment box is constantly clogged enough already! So I'll just stop now with a huge CONGRATULATIONS again on your recent exhibition and successes, and a plea that you keep the wonderful work up, because my DA experience would never be complete without the chance to look at your skill.

Hi! Thank you so much for an amazing comment! First of all I am glad you enjoyed it. And also happy to hear you feel the same way about bags under the eyes as I do. I find them quite beautiful, really, so it is only natural to draw them. I see what you mean about the bird as well, though somehow I felt it was the right look nevertheless. Luckily in drawing and painting one can move away from reality as well as closer to it, wihch leaves room for some of these "unnatural looking" effects. Again, I am so happy you liked it, and you are always my favourite commenter because you are very thorough. I hope to present you with many more works like this in the future, and not to disappoint you with your DA experience. Hehe. I am very sorry, though, to have waited this long to reply to you (of all people!). I hope in the future I will be able to keep up with my DA messages better.
