Description
[Edit]Hi. I made this tutorial a long time ago, and to answer everyone: No, I will not be making any more at this time.
I will locate other helpful files on this topic made by others, though, and list them here:

Question-
If you do that, will blonde hair still be available to use in the game? I don't want to remove it, but the idea of custom hair sounds cool...

I'm probably just having a major "derp" moment.. but after you make the new layer on the hair.. what exactly do you have to do to color it all? >.< I'm using GIMP, though... *is a total graphics n00b*

It's possible, but if you look at the sheer amount of files that must be opened and edited, it's a logistic pain in the ass. If you don't have Photoshop, a great alternative is a program called GIMP. It takes a little getting used to and can be a little buggy at times, but it has many of the same features as Photoshop including opening multiple files at once and creating new layers for coloring over the original.

I haven't messed with it in a good long time. It sounds like your copy of Body Shop might be corrupted. This can sometimes happen on its own, or when you install a lot of custom skins or hair from different places. You might have a graphics card that is out of date.
Sometimes it'll repeat the same pattern for every head, but it really "means" to display the correct file for the hair. There could really be any number of things that cause this to happen.
You might want to check out a forum like modthesims2.com and look around in their troubleshooting, they may very well have already answered a similar question.
I hope all of this helps.

That's great! If that was the case, I bet you had already installed custom hair for a later version (or "expansion")

Actually, what I think it was was that the bodyshop I had was messed up, and then when I installed an expansion, it installed a new version of body shop that was in working condition.

its is great but one prob, do you leave the 'blond' hair in the file or do you remove them, because i only left my edited hair in the file and the black & white stuff, and once i refreshed it said that the files are wrong

ithasnosoul In reply to FireAtWill20 [2009-11-06 00:43:05 +0000 UTC]
You have to close out of the black and white files, you don't do anything with them. The blond hair files are the ones you edit, but leave them with the same filename.
I hope that helps, if not maybe explain it again.

nvm!!! figured out that the name was the key of the prob. my program kept on adding the word 'copy' at the end so thats why it would not work! and you said anyway to leave em with the same name so that gave me the clue!

yep! you gave me a vital clue for me to solve that! It looks so cool in the game now!! XD btw how do you upload sims screen shots on to dA?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ithasnosoul In reply to FireAtWill20 [2009-11-06 04:45:56 +0000 UTC]
Well, you can take screenshots by pressing "Print Screen" and pasting it into its own file and saving it. Then upload in the game screen shot section, I'm pretty sure they have one.

not the editing part, i understood that but, keeping the original files in the folder with the edited and clicking refresh, i left everything in there, but hair wont turn out to be the color i edited them, once i refresh

I used to put them up on DA under "resources", the sub-category would be "skins".
I get a lot of stuff from modthesims2.com, you can make an account there are upload. Also, on the Maxis Sims2 web site.

ok i play the sims a lot and i still dont know how to do ANY of these things yet. any who...i dont have the photoshop on my computer...is there any way that u can do this on paint? please help

ithasnosoul In reply to TenTen001397 [2008-11-13 17:06:57 +0000 UTC]
Well, you're going to need a LOT of patience if you want to do it in paint. It involves recoloring EVERY file I mentioned. BUT! If you have Windows Photo Gallery (I think it comes with Vista but maybe XP might have it too) you can click on FIX for every file and mess with the color settings. That would be a lot faster. Let me know if you have any more problems.

You need to buy it. BUT if you have a file sharing program such as Ares or LimeWire, you can get it for free.

I'm stuck on how to actually create hair styles though :S
