modthesims2.com has some great tutorials, although hair styling is much more complicated as it has to do with 3D modification using SimPE and MilkShape.

Yeah. Well, you'll notice the patterns in the hair, like the lighter and darker spots which are indicators of which way the hair is going. Just take a small brush of whatever color on the same layer, with the brush set to "Multiply", and make streaks where necessary. You might wanna play around with it, I don't do it very much anymore. But if you have anymore trouble let me know and I'll draw you up an example.

MSpaint dosent take a long time. you dont have to color with the mouse the whole time i never do

There are other methods for the original Sims. It's a lot easier, actually, but I can't remember how to explain it unless I have it in front of me.
