Oh boy. I do not have the skills to even attempt this yet, but it's a great tutorial. I'm planning on taking an animation class next semester, so depending on my success with that, I might be able to give your method a shot.

I only took a class briefly in 1995 and animated a bouncing ball. You'll likely do 100% better with it.
