How long does it take to make one?

About a day or two. Depends on the detail. This one took 13 hours.

You should charge somewhere around 8-10 dollars an hour.
For the time it takes me to do commishes, I can typically work at about $15-20 an hour.

Because yes, it sounds fair to me, but.. this exploder took ~12 hours. Who wants to pay me almost 100 dollars for a commish? ;_;

Dude, SHI-HIT! First of all, yes to the colors, second, yes to the design!
What a fantastic render, I'm floored!
The design images are spectacular, each little wire-blue print and different perspective of the ship? Nice touch, and SOLID work!
A few spots where the shading looks like it didn't blend 100%, but hardly noticeable and hardly a problem!
This reminds me... once upon a time I meant to badger you into doing some work for me on a little hover-bike project. XD I'd still love to see what you can do with the crap-sketches I have. I'm good with organic, but machinery... not so much. Which is why when I see something like this, something so well done, there aren't enough good words I can say about it! Surpassing my standards isn't an easy task really, but you seem to do it every time one of your pieces grabs my attention.
