Description
I'm not really into making Fan Art, but today's ALIEN Day (April 26th, chosen after the name of the moon LV-426 from ALIENS)! So I couldn't lose the opportunity to homage the artists behind this franchise, that started with a genre-defining horror sci-fi movie, ALIEN (1979, directed by Ridley Scott). This is the Alien Queen, first seen in ALIENS (1986, directed by James Cameron). The original design is James Cameron's, inspired by H.R. Giger's own original designs for the first Alien movie. The moon LV-426 appears in the first two movies, however is only referred as such since the second, and is also known as Acheron (named after the underworld's river of woe from Hellenic cosmology). The Alien queen has a complex design which mixes the original alien's own biomechanical design with that of some arthropods. She has a huge ovipositor that can detach from her body. The Aliens from the franchise are commonly called xenomorphs although this is rather a generic name for "strange organism". In the comics and other media spawned by the movie franchise, they're also referred by the "scientific names" of Linguafoeda acheronsis ("foul mouth of Acheron") and Internescivus raptus ("Murderous thief"). Other Alien Queens also appear in other ALIEN media, including 2004's Alien vs. Predator (AVP) directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
I particularly enjoyed working on this illustration, as the franchise has been a major influence for me since early childhood. And also, I can't wait to see ALIEN: COVENANT! I believe you people might be as expectant as I am.

Your artwork of the Queen looks stunning.
And your artist comment is wonderfully informative too.
I was sad to read in your comments on this piece that the Queen may be ret-conned/redundant, but at the same time looking forward to seeing how the series explains her existence and all the other little plot devices mentioned in your comments.
Thanks for for sharing your work.

You know there's a terrible rumor going around saying the Alien franchise is attempting to ret-con the Alien Queen. That's so stupid I swear!

Yes, I heard that too, and after watching Alien: Covenant, this is a possibility, but hopefully that's just a possibility. I still think the Alien Queen can still be re-introduced in Covenant's sequels (probably, according to Ridley Scott, there'll be more two movies in the prequel which started with Prometheus), even though her role is already diminished by the fact that Alien eggs can be produced artificially (or that, or as Covenant might imply, David had used Shaw to create the eggs), and that facehuggers can be transported by other means that doesn't involve the eggs.

You may be right about that. Also, my favorite version of the Alien Queen so far is the one from Alien vs. Predator.
