Description Another digital painting from a series of Elemental Gods . Check the full gallery at my dA Folder or at my Behance Project

This is Huitzopoca, an antagonist from the CUETZPALIN Mythos. the Elemental God of Wind (Ehecatl), a founder of Aztlán, head of altepetl (city-state) Yaoyotepetl ("City of the Warriors"), creator of the reptilian kind of the Cuetzpalin and also regarded as a war god by later generations of Cuetzpalin and human Aztecs alike. His role has been vital for the defeat and imprisonment of Tupaq , the Elemental God of Darkness, during the late Topakhon Wars (rhoughly thirty eight centuries before now), but besides that, he has also had prominent roles in the quelling of the rebellions led by Yum Kaax, Yaxcocahmut, Coyolxauhqui and Itzpapalotl inside Aztlán, as well in preventing Ymir (previously known by the Cuetzpalin during the Topakhon Wars as Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli) from extinguishing the Cuetzpalin kind during the only Ice Age Aztlán ever witnessed. His influence, however, even goes far beyond that, for he has been the only elemental god who has kept captive not just one, but three Huehueyolcatl (and a mandragoran, Xochiquetzal) for centuries: Cipactli, Kukulcan and Yaxcocahmut. His weapon is the powerful Xiuhcoatl ("Fire Serpent"); his shield is the Tonalchimalli ("Sun Shield"), he wears a bird-like mask that is actually made after the skull of a fellow Aztec Teotl (God)/ Aztlán founder, Chalchiuhtotolin, whom he has killed and later impersonated himself, as one of his avatars. As a god of magic and deceit, Huitzopoca has many forms, like that of Tepeyollotl, guardian of Oztoman. He also carries the skulls of fallen Teteoh, including that of his sister Coyolxauhqui, killed by him after she tried to kill their mother (or rather the mother of his latest avatar/ixiptla), Coatlicue .

It's said, however, that even his cunning won't prevent him from facing his demise, because there's a prophecy from the fires within Mount Popocatepetl, as stated by Xulu & Pacaw, wayob (rhoughly equal to nahual, a concept that varies from "totemic animal" to "shapeshifting magician") magicians known to the Hero Twins Hunahpu & Xbalanque (former servants, then foes to this god - who's also known as "U Kux Kah" by the peoples of Chicomoztoc), in which "The one who has used the endless vital energy of the Huehueyolcatl (the Teyoliatl substance) for his own gain will eventually lose his senses and die". To Huitzopoca, it's attributed the development of predation in life, the law of blood sacrifice as the fuel for new life, the constant sacrifice which is manifested in the Xochiyaoyotl ("Flower Wars", series of battle competitions held in Aztlán between the warriors of each altepetl). For Centuries, no matter how much the society of Aztlán has changed and how many groups have risen against the blood sacrifices and the Xochiyaoyotl, the Xochiyaoyotl, the blood sacrifices and even cannibal practices have been kept, enforced by the Tlamacazqui priests and the elite Cuachicqueh Warriors , whose patron is Huitzopoca.

Huitzopoca may be the most violent and brutal of the Elemental gods, and despite cunning, his taste for blood, violence and heat for battle still blinds him to other aspects of life. Whether or not the unique combination of warrior skills and cunning from this tyrannical life-giver & life-taker (who has about thirty different bodies roaming through the galaxy) will prevent him from facing his demise, and if it will come by the hands of his longtime exploited rivals, the Huehueyolcatl, or their allies (Mandragorans), if not by the very elemental gods, who have managed to have kept many secrets even from him, is still to be known.

It's clear that this character's name is a portmanteau of two Mexica/Aztec Deities : Huitzilopochtli (God of War and Patron of Mexico) and Tezcatlipoca (God of night, magic, patron of the nahual magicians), and that he also shares characteristics with another major Mesoamerican Precolumbian God, Quetzalcoatl - hence he's a Feathered Reptile himself, and both are wind-related. On the CUETZPALIN Mythos, alongside Tempo the Elemental God of Space, he also replays the roles of Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl on the creation of the world . Despite the character has changed a lot throughout the years, alongside the CUETZPALIN Mythos as a whole, his name (that as stated before is a portmanteau of Huitzilopochtli & Tezcatlipoca, and doesn't mean "Smoking Hummingbird" as "Huitzilpopoca" would mean) was also used by another character, the main god from the BYDURAK Series during 2003-2010.

As I'm still searching for a style to follow on digital painting, I'm not sure how much finished this painting is (the background is still very simple, for example). Constructive feedback is always welcome!
