Description I already posted a couple of pictures of my 1:8 Werewolf statue here. But - some days ago I finally finished mould-making and got my first test casting. So, here it is, first resin copy of my Werewolf!
I used small black stones in base as a filler - base is 425 grams, 300 grams of it are stones. That's why the base looks like it looks.
I'll try to paint it as soon as I find time, so it's probably not the last image of this sculpt here...
Thanks for looking!

Thanks!

I must say I don't care much for most of the Werewolf statues I've seen so far. Usually they are somehow too thin, not too much like a wolf. And they are always screaming.

I was trying to make a statue of the Werewolf who's done something, who's tired and panting, like something horrifying happened some minutes ago. Now he's sitting there, bloody and he doesn't really remember, what exactly...

The only complaint I have about this sculpture is the placement of the tail. It seems almost like it was tacked on as an afterthought, instead of flowing smoothly as an extension of the spine.

Although it may only be the angles that the model is shown from, too. To give a proper critique about the tail, I'd have to see a copy in person.

Aside from that, I think it looks fantastic! The detail work must have taken painstaking hours to do. I'm jealous of your patience.

A great sculture with detail given to the entire creature and great use of the medium. The posture and expression are unusually benign for such a subject and thus give it a novelty of beign more wolf than human, more innocent than malicious.

Original idea was to have some snow and blood on the base. But then I didn't want to cover and destroy stone textures I made...

I very much look forward to seeing the finished painted piece, but in the meanwhile the composition & design of this werewolf is just wonderful. The long slim limbs are different from many others interpretation of lycanthropes & the almalgamation of human/creature musculature is very logical & makes it all the more believable.

Congratulations on the DD - well deserved!

Soggyfoot1 [2008-12-15 17:51:59 +0000 UTC]

That is incredible. Any detail that you could add at that scale, is there. Anything more, like fleas or ticks would more seem like blemishes. Yeah, I think that a longer tail would have been my first guess, but I've never seen one, and it is a compromise between the two forms.. I keep looking for anything that you could have done... The ears are a bit thick...I'm sure there are limitations in the material. And it seems you've purposely photographed the piece to not show the genitals. A wolfish (sheathed) penis shouldn't offend anyone, assuming it's a male. Is it? What about nipples? Both males and females have them, granted they're not larger than ticks, your audience is eventually going to look for them. No need for womanish type breasts unless she's got pups.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Ivar-L In reply to Soggyfoot1 [2008-12-27 02:40:39 +0000 UTC]

There are nipples (ca 3 millimeters) and other details...

Ok, I'll try to post some new images. Maybe should take some new pix of original with my new camera...

Ears - yes, they couldn't be too thin, but they are hairy, so it's ok, I think. They don't look thick when painted, at least I hope so. Tail - it may be small, but I don't want my Werewolf to look too much like a fox.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Soggyfoot1 In reply to Ivar-L [2009-01-02 21:19:06 +0000 UTC]

OH, absolutely, the ears, the tail, they are real good. The ears could be too think, and brittle--that wouldn't be good.

hey dude awesome work!

id iยดm allowed iยดll have a few questions:
Say which material do you use?
how long does it take to finish one statue for you.
is the drying of the material a problem and how does it affect the work progress?

iยดve never tried on myself but thats one of my next projects to give it a try. to sculp my own statues.
and so... i need information

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Ivar-L In reply to Elyan [2008-12-27 02:16:41 +0000 UTC]

Hi!
My main material is Cernit, a polymer clay made in Germany. I'd recommend "opaque white" mixed with a little black, I'm using this mix for another Hellboy character (Ilsa) statue at the moment. Super Sculpey is probably the most common polymer clay, but when I finally got it (they don't sell it in my country), I discovered that it's too soft for me and just drives me crazy.
I can say that I can't do this kind of details from Sculpey.

How long - TOO long. But as I made it for myself, the only concern is that I should like (and not hate) the finished thing. So I modify and modify and modify...

Drying -
the statue I started working again some weeks ago was standing with some not-baked details maybe for a year. So, when I finally baked it to start working on it again (and just to carve out areas what I don't like), it got several cracks. But basically, drying is not a big problem. I bake my statues many times, so when the overall form is there, I only have the part I'm working on (boot, hand, face) unbaked.

wow the texture, the fury, the body the complexity of the anatomy and the most importat: head and body looks one like they are one, other werewolfs I have seen so far look like the head and the body are from different persons, well done!

This is amazing o.o I read up there in the previous comments, you may one day be selling copies of the castings If I have money to do so, I will buy one if you get around to it. I'm afraid I'm going to have to marry you now *hit* Seriously though, this is great <3 *fave*
