Made with JWildfire. Started with xheart_blur_wf (duh), then a layered_spiral transform and a few linears. Mess with it a bit to try and get curves that look like nerve endings. Then I use the G'MIC-Qt angoisse anguish and dream smoothing filters. I add a little bit of bloom blur to smooth out the sharper gradients that dream smoothing sometimes produces. In this case, running dream smoothing for more than 3 iterations was giving me a different effect so I could not just run more iterations to smooth out some gradients. There was some color rebalancing at the end.

To me, it looks like some fake heart being injected into the central nervous system of some really scary looking brain. I dunno, I like the aesthetic and idea of this representing some kind of artificial faux life. It does remind me vaguley of a sci-fi rendition of the famous heartbleed openSSL vulnerability.
