Here’s a pair of my newest creatures - Beetlewing Basilisks! Social creatures by nature, these alien-like dragons function much like bees or wasps, living together in giant swarms that can range from anywhere between 30-100 individuals. Carving deep winding tunnels into the earth to serve as their nest, the Basilisks vigilantly patrol the passageways to protect their stockpiles of food and their larvae. It’s even rumored that a Queen Basilisk can be found at the heart of the nest sending orders to the hivemind, though no human has ever made it far enough into a nest to confirm this. Adult male Basilisks grow to roughly the size of a German Shepard, while the females grow to a slightly larger size, like that of a wolf. This large size paired with the fact that they live in enormous groups usually spell disaster for the surrounding ecosystem, which is usually ravaged in a number of months. Luckily (or unluckily depending on who you ask), Basilisks are ruthlessly violent towards other hives, so they usually keep their own populations fairly in check.

* A lot of inspiration for this design came from Xenomorphs!
