Description
For Davidicus~Beware the Moroginh Merchants. Their smile is broad, but their daggers are broader still.
----------------
I felt like painting something for my buddy Davidicus. (He wrote me a short song last year lamenting my leaving Neversoft... twas the awesomest) Listened to the playlist titled Davidicus Songs, and started!
About three hours. I tried to paint it in the classic oil painting style. I drew it loose, then glazed in a tone, and then pulled the lights out by erasing. Then went to opaques. Was a lot of fun. It's weird that when I'm finally free of freelance, and various other work requirements, I find myself at the compy... painting... again...

I never knew you worked at Neversoft. That just seems befitting with you. Great how you've portrayed it's age as old, yet still making it look mischevious..

You can't get away from art, no matter how much you want to. Creating for other people may drain you of the energy to make it, but it doesn't take away the need to communicate with it. If your job was making speeches it wouldn't mean you stopped talking the rest of the time.
man I love his big fishy eyes, but I keep thinking of the fishhead song. X3

I never learned how to oil paint but I'll try to take a class some time because apparently applying it to digital medium works amazingly. The lighting and textures are terrific!

Painting is painting, no matter what medium, the base philosophy and the understanding of light should be the same! ^_^ So practice makes perfect either way!

Framers frame, cooks cook and artists art.... tis why you can't stay away from the machine that is the best thing to happen to art since the printing press. It's in your blood. I hope to join your ranks some fine day. But for now, there's lots and lots to learn and even more practice to be done.
Very Star Wars-esque creature design... can't go wrong with that. Fine work.

Sweet. He looks like something out of Hellboy.
I like the oil painting style. How very Hussar of you.
I'm not gonna lie, I'd fall for his charms. I'd stare in shock and dismay into his super sexily rendered reflective eyes as he stabs me in my gullible gut.

IzzyMedrano In reply to PawnAttack [2008-07-16 18:22:21 +0000 UTC]
I got it more from Ponti Wolgemuth. Well the subtracting out of the tonal glaze thing. Hussar goes in for the ala prima bidness, if memory serves. He does look a little bit like something out of the troll market. Sweet!
I imagine his giggle sounds like the laughter of children... and his eyes never go dark as he slides the long shaft of his dagger in. Smiles and candy, while he digs through your intestines for the sell-able bits with his little sucker fingers.

First, he looks funny. ^^ And then friendly. Those big eyes... Really good work, reminds a bit of Star Wars (I'm not a Star Wars freak so I don't remember the place
) where everywhere were (what a sentence) those Jabba-like looking creatures...

You went for oils, but achieved watercolours!
Great illusion of the traditional technique!
And the creature is ubersweet! May he be treacherous and deadly, but he surely mastered on 'looking-innocently-as-mommy's-angel' classes!
And I am charmed by the colour scheme - I always loved browns and oranges, and the addition of blue makes this piece full of life!
Great job!
