Description
Jessica AlbaPencil and Dry Brush on Paper
Many people ask me why I use a brush. I have come to find that a round bristol brush will give a smoother effect when I use it to blend than using my finger or any other blending/smearing tool. It works for me, but it isn't for everyone.

this picture has been in my favourites for a few years now, i still love it! ...This picture spurs me on to become as good (or better haha) than you when it comes to drawing, i feel i am getting there and have improved, but still got a way to go, and then hopefully one day i can get 43600 views, 1421 favourites, 402 comments and 7859 downloads haha, still a very nice drawing, and i will also give the paintbrush a go! ps these were your statistics at the time when i was writing this comment.

GREAT WORK!
do you use the brush to blend the smaller scale areas aswell? i just use tissue wrapped around a skewer and even that can't get into some of the small area's, it's frustrating.

Oh, yes I use a dry bristle brush to blend subtle areas.

Awesome WIP, never tried using a bursh for blending, I may have to give it a shot
Not sure why this was featured as a trompe l'oeil though.

wow! cool. nice work. it is impressive. I prefer to use a brush rather than a real spreader too. which reminds me, i haven't done any charcoal or pencil portrait in years... oh, i suddenly miss it. nice artwork. its inspiring.

Oh yeah, definately. I just use the grid like a painter uses a ladder. It's a tool that makes things go a little faster

Thanks! I use a boar bristle round brush, the brand or size doesn't matter a whole lot. I prefer a smaller one though for the face and details and I use a larger one for the background and such.
