Jessica AlbaPencil and Dry Brush on Paper
Many people ask me why I use a brush. I have come to find that a round bristol brush will give a smoother effect when I use it to blend than using my finger or any other blending/smearing tool. It works for me, but it isn't for everyone.

Wow looks amazing. The lips look great, I always find it impossible to make the wrinkles in the lips without them looking crusty but hers look awesome. Can't wait to see the final piece!

i really like it, but i dont think you should finish it. i think it looks finished now, and its creates an intriguing effect with just the face emerging from the paper.

Wow, this is incredibly striking. Even moreso, in my opinion, because it is unfinished. That was what caught my attention. It draws you in. Very, very good job with the portrayl. I couldn't tell it was her at first, but I see it now. Excellent shading and blending, btw.

Excellent, and it's cool we can see the pencil and the brush, makes it not like a flat drawing, makes it lively, as if you were around..
One question : how much time do you need for such a drawing?

Something like this normally takes me about a month... but I've been so busy moving out and getting situated in my new place and new school that I haven't worked on it as much as I's like to.

Beautiful piece. It really is. I don't think you should do any more to it. Erase the grid and it's perfect the way it is. I draw with a Staedtler .5mm and a brush for smoothing as well. Never tried an Alvin before, might have to pick one up and try it out. And again, I love the art. Great work.

Even though this is just a work-in-progress, the effect of her face coming out of the gridded paper is quite dramatic, like an Escher or Picasso lithograph. The way you have left space for the hair on her forehead plays with the positive and negative space. It seems like on the left side the paper is in front of her and the right it is behind her. The strong profile line of her jaw going into her neck ties her face onto the paper while the pen and brush ground the picture as a physical drawing. All-around this is a wonderful composition with great value independent of its later stages.

in an early coment someone said "i know this isn't finished" well i think it very well could be finished. this "unfinished" drawing is in a lot of ways more interesting visualy than some of your more finished ones.
