Description
In this double portrait I was trying to represent a girl who is having an identity crisis. Basically I was trying to show that every person has two sides to them...I used these amazing stock photos to create this painting-
[link]
and [link]
The painting size is 90cm by 120cm I used acrylics and then oils over the top
This is the last photo I took of the painting before I kind of wrecked some of it by using to much white spirit on it but I’m happy it even got this far.
i painted this to brush up on my techniques with oils... I don’t plan to do anything similar in the near future ... I don’t think it really suits me.
Comments would be very much appreciated
I found a better photo - its anoying when you mess something up and you dont have decent photographs....

I'm not an expert, but you're being too hard on yourself... It's incredibly beautiful.

The placement of the lighting is genius. It's so soft and beautiful and the psychological element of it makes this painting so delicious loool. But really, what a wonderful talent you have!

I hadn't thought of using oils over acrylics. I just might have to try that sometime. This is a beautiful piece, too! Congratulations on a job well done and for the DD!!

Sounds oh so tempting, but I was wondering on the dry time. Now, with acrylics, I know they dry pretty fast depending on how much is layered, but once THAT is dry and then you add the oils... I bet the dry time on that takes even longer... Do you wait for each layer to dry or do a wet on wet technique?

with the acrylics they dry fast so that’s no problem.... but when it comes to oils I hardly ever let it dry -though I do glazes with white spirit and that dries pretty fast. I should wait for layers to dry lol but don’t always have the patience.

THANK YOU for posting with YOUR comments! So many artists just post the picture and we are left with a million questions. I for one, am not here to simply look at pictures. I want details. I can Google pictures all day. I have never herd of oil over acrylic. I was told it can't be done. So much for that, but why bother? Speed?
Thanks again

no problem I like comment on work too. yeah you cant really paint acrylics over oils very well - but the other way round is ok.

OK; but I still don't understand why one would paint oil over acrylic. What is the reason?

its just a personal prefrence - I build the basics up with acrylics because its faster and easier and dries quicker and I can map out the painting in my head roughly what I want. Then I use the oils to refine the painting and leave some of the acrylic layers to show though beneath it to get better light sources . sorry if Im confusing its sort of an underpainting I do with the acrylics thats all.

Thank you. I had never herd of that. It makes sence. I thought time might have been a factor and it is. I paint several at once, that way I always have a dry one but it costs money. I would love to see your technique close up some time. So if you could just fly over with a few canvases some time I would appreciate it lol.
Thank you for the courtesy

I'm not sure which takes more of my attention, the girls on the bench and the detail contained therein, or the scenery outside, I think either could stand alone without the other!
BRAVO and well met!

It may not suit you (it certainly stands out in your gallery, which by the way is fantastic especially 'man' and dennis')
but it is a beautiful painting. You've somehow made it feel almost airy like a watercolour, and the lighting is great, especially where it comes between the arm and leg of the seated figure.
