Do you use a brush? I started using a small brush with a flat brush end, it's so useful. You can put some charcoal on the brush from another piece of paper, and gently shade it onto the drawing with the brush, and can build up layer of shadow. Maybe you do that already

Very well done; I rarely draw because I don't have the patience for it. Nice work here, particularly in the dramatic pose; great job pulling all the elements together without distorting the overall anatomy. Beautiful.

Jas, this is really beautiful! I love the pose, the delicacy of her hands and the shading is nice and soft. She looks rather sad sitting hunched over like that. Bad for your posture, you know.
