Description
Zukos over the years. Yep. I used the same reference picture for all of them. That clip-art one on dollar store stickers and valentines from season 1 of Zuko looking grim, and his hair blowing prettily. Only in 2005 I couldn't turn him the right direction, and I liked him too much to make him frown.Original meme: [link]

Awesome! I have Photoshop Elements 10, but I don't really know how to use it very well. Is there any way you could help me figure out how to color and edit a lineart that I upload from my scanner into the program? I've tried doing a few things, just experimenting, but I would like to know how to do something like that awesome Zuko pic. Like, could you explain how to do shading and stuff?
Sorry to bother you, I would just like to know, and judging by your work, I'd say you know exactly whay you're doing. (That Zuko pic looked like a screenshot from the show!)

Thanks!
It's no problem. My version is Photoshop Elements 8, so I'm not sure how different they are. But what I did when I colored traditional lineart was take the 'magic eraser' between all of the lines, and then I copied the layer and filled it in with the fill bucket. Then I started a new layer above that one, and used some of the softer brushes to start on shading.
It's kind of hard to explain through words..I guess that's why people make tutorials. XD But you cal also look at some of the animations I've made of my progress: [link] Mostly, all of the ones with the pastel thumbnails, and "'Cute' Animation." They'll kind of give you an idea of my coloring process, but I'm still learning myself, and I use other people's tutorials sometimes. I especially love 's coloring, and her tutorial can be found here: [link]
I hope this helps at all!!

Thanks so much for your help! I have a couple more questions though. How do you draw your images? Like, do you use a computer mouse to do it on Photoshop, or do you have a tablet? Because when I uploaded a lineart that I had outlined in black pen, the lines looked a bit pixilated instead of being smooth.
Also, I tried uploading a piece of work I had done in Photoshop to DeviantArt, and it keeps telling me I need to have a seperate preview image. I have already tried changing the file type to a jpeg, but it still says it needs a preview image. How do you upload your Photoshop work and make the preview image the actual deviation itself?

You're welcome!
I used to draw my lines traditionally, and then I decided to learn how to use a mouse, and now I have a tablet. I just got it for Christmas, so everything from December on is tablet-drawn. but I had that problem too with traditional lines. They smooth out a LITTLE if you resize it to a smaller image once you're done, though.
And I have no idea what the problem is with a preview image. I'm sorry! The only time I've ever needed a preview image is when uploading .gifs, but I guess you could just duplicate the picture and resize it to like, 200 or 300 pixels width or height...I really don't know. If it's a jpeg or even a bmp, it shouldn't need a preview image. Maybe it's a DeviantArt glitch. If it still doesn't work after a while, you could report it, though I'm not sure how to go about that. In the FAQ, I guess. But good luck with it! If you ever want to ask anything else, feel free, but I'm not sure I'll know the answer.

Thank you so much for your help! I wish I had a tablet to draw my stuff, but alas I don't. Oh well. I think I'll just go with traditional lineart for now, and maybe I'll be able to get a tablet someday.
I was finally able to resize the image so that I could post my work! Here it is if you'd like to check it out.->[link] Keep in mind, this is my very first piece made in Photoshop, so I don't really know what I'm doing. If you have any suggestions or advice, feel free to let me know. I need the improvement! (Plus, I haven't really gotten used to the Dodge Tool yet.)

You're welcome!!
I hope you get a tablet soon. It's really helpful, but you CAN draw traditionally or with a mouse just as well.
And that's cool that the resizing worked out! The picture looks great!! I can't even tell that it's your first photoshop attempt, it looks wonderful!!
