Description This is a rendering from Second Life (Base Image)

One of my all time favorite games was Phantasy Star 2 (Sega Genesis). I been playing it again on my Laptop and decided to make a Nei (a character from the game) like avatar in Second Life. I did a few pictures and decided to play around with them. Here is my 16-bit salute image

UPDATE:

Ok, so I should explain this image a bit more. I wanted it to look like a scan from the old Japanese video game magazines. Most of the magazines at that time (late 80's, early 90's) had about half the book in nice glossy paper.. the rest was the more rough pulp paper. And some mags even went further by reducing the color of those pages to a basic pallet of 16 colors. I wanted this image to look like it was printed/scanned from those rough/pulp pages, hence the not pure black background and such. I grew up around this kind of stuff so it has a more nostalgic value to me than most other people from North America. Anyways I hope you enjoy the image.

This is my Deviant ID for the month of March 2014.

Once I finish 2 I will do 4 again. Haha maybe if I feel up to it 3 after that (I won't hold my breath though). I have a translated Phantasy Star I for the Playstation 2 I been meaning to play as well..

Yeah, I want to play those as well. I've got the screen shots and it always made me excited. I'm sad they didn't redo IV though.Β
I liked III myself, but it seems to be the bastard child of the series. I haven't found anyone that enjoyed it as much as I did.Β

God, 16 bit. Β I remember going from my 8 bit C64 to my first 16 bit Packard Bell desktop PC, with Win 3.1 on it. I was in heaven. Β Little did I realize that was only the tip of the iceberg!

Great homage to classic tech!

I love 16-bit games. Its funny I like Phantasy Star II and IV more than any of the new RPGs out there. Most games now are all graphics.. but have a short 8-12 hour story/campaign. Then its endless mutli-player instances to unlock crap (If they have the option). Or you pay for the DLC that should have been with the game to begin with. I like my old games that takes weeks to play.. and have interesting characters.
But then I am weird.. I think half the 90s I dreamed in 16bit/256 color.

Nice! Really like the late 80s/early 90s look to this. The rest of the renderings are awesome too.

Haha can you tell I gamed lots in the 80's-90's. I loved my RPGs back then and even now play them O.o;
Something must be wrong with me cuz I can play these games day and night while my super graphic RPGs sit on the shelves collecting dust. I have no idea why but I love anime style lineart and 16bit video game art.

It sucks that Sega didn't remake Phantasy Star: End of Millennium. Though it wouldn't be much since Sega never released PS I and II remakes stateside...
