Chapter 5: Dinner with Gabriel Agreste

*A few minutes earlier*

While Adrien and Marinette were chatting and playing games in his room, Gabriel Agreste went on his computer to investigate Marinette.

He took pictures of Marinette that came from when crazy fans were chasing after the two and compared them to pictures of Ladybug the same way he did it with Adrien and Cat Noir when he once speculated that they were one and the same.

"Hmm." Gabriel grunted as he looked at the pictures closely zooming in on her earrings in both pictures.

Then he walked towards, his big portrait of his wife, pressed the buttons that were hidden which transported him to his secret lair inside the mansion, which was very dark and filled with butterflies.

His kwami Nooroo popped out of Gabriel's miraculous and asked "Master, are you certain that the bakery girl could be Ladybug?"

"I don't know, but it is possible." Gabriel responded.

"But what if it's just another misunderstanding, like when you thought your son was Cat Noir?" Nooroo asked.

"Look! I don't know if this girl is Ladybug or not, but we'll never know if we don't look into it." Gabriel said in a serious tone. "And I have to do what is necessary to bring my wife back." he then said softly while looking at his locket that had a picture of Emilie in it.

*sigh* "I released... so many akumas... and all of them failed... how am I supposed to capture Ladybug and Cat Noir's miraculouses by this point?" a frustrated Gabriel scolded.

Then he remembered he saw something interesting about the miraculouses when he first had the Miraculous book, so he grabbed the book and looked at it again to see what it was.

"Hmm, from what I see here, apparently the miraculouses can obtain special powers." Gabriel said while looking at the book.

"Nooroo, can you tell me what this means?" Gabriel asked his kwami since he can't understand Chinese.

"I don't know... master!" Nooroo replied.

"TELL ME!" Gabriel yelled.

"I swear! I don't know anything!" Nooroo panicked, which made Gabriel pretty furious.

"OK, OK! It's true! The Miraculouses can contain special powers when the kwami consumes these different substances, but only if it contains the right ingredients. That's all I know master." Nooroo said.

Where can I find these ingredients?" Gabriel asked.

"Only guardians know, Master." Nooroo said.

"Are there any of them left?" Gabriel asked which Nooroo hesitantly said "Only one..."

"Where do I find him? Gabriel insisted which made a terrified Nooroo gulp in fear.

Meanwhile, 21 Year old Jean Astruc was on his way home from film school, as he wanted to do a career in animated features.

He has been very stressed recently due to the FCC's vote to repeal of Net Neutrality in America, fearing that it might happen in other countries as well, including France, and that it might even hurt his chances of making movies in the future.

"So did you hear that the FCC is actually going through these new rules in America?" said Jean's friend that he was talking to on the phone.

"Yeah... their new commissioner is the scum of the earth!" Jean said.

"But I also heard that many people are fighting to bring Net Neutrality back, and even congressmen are suing the commissioner for repealing it illegally" His friend said.

"That's good to know, that nutball should be thrown in jail! And Mayor Bourgeois better not be getting any ideas!" Jean exclaimed releasing a bit of his anger towards the situation.

*sigh* "Sorry, It's just that I've been stressed a lot ever since the last election." Jean said calmly after his little snap.

"I feel you man." his friend replied "And speaking of which, I actually heard that the mayor's daughter often uses him to manipulate others."

"Wow, what a spoiled brat!" Jean chuckled, which his friend replied "Tell me about it."

"Listen I gotta go, I'll talk to you another time" Jean said, which his friend replied "Ok, good luck on your stories." Jean then hung up and entered his apartment only to get a pleasant welcome from his girlfriend who was making dinner.

"Hey love! How was your day?" Ange asked in which her boyfriend replied with a sigh "It was rough!"

He then saw the news was on and it was about more nonsense coming from America's chump president, so he angrily turned off the TV then sat on the couch looking all depressed.

And with that response, Ange's smile turned into a frown, so she turned off the stove for a few minutes to give his boyfriend a kiss "You always know how to make me feel better, Ange" Jean thought as he smiled at his girlfriend and kissed her back, then she gave her back rub while listening to him talk about his rough day.

Gabriel returned to his office so he can get ready for dinner with Adrien and Marinette as he saw real potential in her as a fashion designer but in a way, he also saw it as an open opportunity to learn more about the girl who might be his arch enemy.

As soon as they all sat down on Gabriel's huge dinner table with fancy chairs, their food was delivered. It started off quiet where everyone was eating their meals thinking if they should say anything until Marinette finally said "Wow! This food is amazing Mr. Agreste!" which Gabriel replied "Glad you like it."

"Uh, may I?" Marinette asked referring to the gravy next to her, which Gabriel nodded.

She reached for the gravy only to accidentally spill the drink next to her "AH! I'm so sorry Mr. Agreste! I'll clean that up!" Marinette exclaimed as she picked up her napkin and wiped it.

Gabriel was a bit turned off by Marinette's clumsiness right there, but he still wanted information regardless.

"So... why don't you tell us about yourself Marinette?" Gabriel asked her, getting Adrien's attention as well.

Even though Marinette feels more comfortable talking to Adrien now, she was still nervous when it came to his father because one, he's one of her biggest inspirations to become a fashion designer, and two, he is the father of his longtime crush who is known for being very close minded, so it's very possible that he won't approve of her, but she tried her best to make a good impression despite that little slip up.

"Well uh, my parents own a bakery in the apartment we live in, which happens to be right next to the school we go to." Marinette chuckled. "And we make some of the best baked goods you'll ever taste!"

"Is that so?" Gabriel said with a little smile. "Maybe I'll stop for a few sometime."

"Oh, tell him about all the other stuff you made Marinette." Adrien said.

"OK, well let's see uh, I made this purse." Marinette said, showing the purse she made for herself. "I made a pair of glasses and an album cover for Jagged Stone, I also made tons of hats and necklaces for my friends, and I even made a scarf for Adrien's birthday." Marinette gasped while covering her mouth as she just realized she messed up again by accidentally blurting out that it was actually from her, and not from his father like he thought.

Adrien then looked at Marinette with a minor shock on his face, and Marinette looked at Adrien with instant regret. 'So my dad... didn't make that scarf?' Adrien thought while looking down at the table.

Gabriel then caught them off guard by saying "Interesting... Where do you get all these ideas?" He asked Marinette.

"Well... the ideas just... come to me everywhere I go. Inspiration is everywhere these days, you know." Marinette chuckled in slight embarrassment, in which Gabriel responded "Fascinating." while he holds his hands together.

"Uh sorry, I gotta go clean myself up! WHOA!" Marinette said before losing her balance and holding on to a chair, preventing her from falling to the ground.

Gabriel and Adrien said nothing as Marinette gave a little chuckle while blushing and then got back up and left the room on her way to the bathroom.

Later that night, Adrien asked Marinette if she wanted his bodyguard to drive her home, which she turned down and decided to just walk home. They said goodbye to each other, and then Marinette took off.

As she was walking home, Tikki stuck her head out of Marinette's bag to talk to her about her night, "So how'd it go at dinner?" Tikki asked.

"Ugh! I screwed up everything, Tikki!... Mr. Agreste probably hates me now." Marinette said making Tikki's smile disappear.

Tikki usually knew how to make Marinette feel better when she was down at times like these, but this time she had no idea what to say.

"We'll talk about it later at home, Tikki." Marinette said before Tikki went back in her bag.

Along the way home, two people were spying on her, it was Chloe and Sabrina trying to get back at her for what happened at school.

Sabrina was across the street behind a building, using her phone to record Marinette who's about to walk near a puddle, while Chloe was behind another building on Marinette's side getting ready to trip her.

Sabrina said to Chloe through the walkie talkie "greatest of all, this is wild glasses, the cat is about to leave the cage!"

"Roger that wild glasses, when she reaches the line, you give the signal!" Chloe whispered through her walkie talkie.

Once Marinette reached the point, Sabrina said "NOW!" and then Chloe trips Marinette with her foot, causing her to fall right on her face. then Chloe made a run for it to make sure she wasn't seen.

"What in the world?!" Marinette thought to herself while she was getting back up before a car drove right into the puddle causing Marinette to yelp and the water splashed all over her.

"...I should have had Adrien's bodyguard drive me." Marinette thought to herself as she felt completely humiliated.

Chloe went towards Sabrina's position hiding in plain sight "YEAH!" they both said as they give each other a high five.

Chloe then looked at the footage and said with an evil grin "Wait till everyone sees this!"
