Well, I finally got around to finishing the coloring on my Beauty and the Beast picture. As I've mentioned on here before, Beauty and the Beast happens to be a particular favorite fairy tale of mine, and I've read countless different versions. For some time now I've had the desire to do my own series of illustrations based on the original fairy tale, and it's a project which I find myself wandering back to in between working on other things.This was drawn on an 11"x14" surface on watercolor paper using ink pens and ink washes, and then I did all of the coloring in Photoshop with my wacom tablet. Full view is strongly recommended!

After you do a wash in black and white, is this painted over in watercolor hues or did you use Photoshop to add the colors in? I love your technique...it's so crisp, but so well-worn.

All of the color is painted in Photoshop, I just use the ink washes to help establish a value basis and to add some texture.

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale. I especially love the french film by Jean Cocteau. Always moves something deep within me. Every time. No matter what adaptation, I always cry at the end. This is a wonderful capturing of the story. Beautiful job.

The coloring and detail are amazing. It's as if the Beast just came up behind her and asked her something like, "Do you like the roses?", taking her by silent surprise and she's not sure how to respond to her beastly but gentle captor.

Stunning and intricately well made...I love how detailed this picture is: the roses, his fur and their outfits are all amazing. I like how this looks too...it has a soft, water color- look to it and it's very fitting of that time period/setting of Beauty and the Beast. I read that you have read other versions of this story...do you happen to still know the titles? I would really like to read them

I don't know if you still want some titles of Beauty and the Beast versions, but I was just reading your comment that you left for the artwork titled"Among the Roses" and couldn't help but recommend 2 of my favorites, the first and my alltime favorite book is titled "Beauty, a retelling of beauty and the beast" by Robin Mckinley~My favorite book in the history of the world, I highly recommend it* and my other second favorite is titled "Belle" this one is excellent too, I enjoy the first one mentioned the best but the second mentioned is my second favorite, but I will let you decide...

Hmm...let's see, I haven't read that many by Mckinley except for The Outlaws of Sherwood and The Door in the Hedge. I heard of The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown, supposedly those are good ones too but I haven't had time to go out and buy her other books

Beauty and the Beast is by far my favourite fairytale as well. This piece does it wonderful justice too. I really love the use of darker colors, it makes the pair's love seem to stand out more.
