I mean the style with red and grey\light blue ..

This style is usually meant for print, because limiting the print to just a few colors makes it cheaper, which is important for mass-produced election posters.
(Not that Obama had tight election budget, after all big banks and industry are supporting him, but I guess regular people were financing their own campaign activity from their own pockets. Can't say for sure though, since I don't live in the USA and haven't seen these posters outside of the WWW.)
