Description
For many years I've stared at this location, but only behind glass and inside a frame. Always crossing my fingers I would have my chance at that special opportunity to experience this amazing place for myself. Then finally, that opportunity arose. I made my plans, located the area and took a hike, twice actually. The first evening, I shot from 5 pm to 1 am, soaking up every bit of detail I could cram into my little brain. So as to never forget such a unique and historic place.
There was only one issue, the evening wasn't what I had pictured in my head for my shot. So, the following evening I returned to not only be greeted by an extremely hospitable German native named Peter Sierla, that by the way allowed me to shoot this with his 24mm f/3.5 TS-E, but the sunset I had been waiting for.
The temperature, the lighting, the location, the company, everything was just........perfect.
I'll never forget this evening.

Amazing area for sure... I was in the backcountry for 3 days hoping to get some nice photos, but it was overcast and rainy non-stop haha.
Guess I'll have to come back and for another try at making a photo as great as this

Yeah I was prepared for 3 days of sun and heat, but that turned out otherwise.
It still was an amazing experience to be there all alone, but I was happy to make it out too
Β
At the time the whole area was suffering from a low-pressure area + heavy rain that stuck around for a few days.

Man, any crazy shots from the trip? Β And which district were you at when you visited Canyonlands?

I was at the islands in the sky district, from September 8-10 this year.
Started from the Alcove Springs trailhead to Taylor campsite. The next day off to the Syncline campsite at the upheaval dome, and the final day I made it out again through the Syncline loop.
There's some pictures indeed, though I didn't take that many, but you get the impression of the overall conditions. I've put some in the scrapbook: argonavis.deviantart.com/galleβ¦
Actually saw a rattle snake all curled up on the last day when I was scrambling up the side of the canyon to find the right path , but didn't want to take the risk of taking a photo there hehe
The last day the clouds finally started breaking up so that might've been a great time for sunsets

Anoya, thank you so much for your support. Β I cannot express how much it means that you have selected my work for a DD. Β I apologize about the time frame in which I responded to your wonderful comment, however. Β Now with a small family I find there are fewer opportunities to check my DA account. Β Again, thank you so much.

It just doesn't get any better than this, does it. When I lived in Salt Lake City (for 27 years of my adult life), I used to spend as much time as possible hiking, biking and climbing in Southern Utah. Canyonlands was my favorite park but it wasn't until my 6th trip down there that I discovered the beauty and spirituality of False Kiva. You've really done justice to it.
