In the original sketch the eyes of the boy on the left were looking down at the other one. As you progressed, you changed the eyes so that neither appear to be looking at each other any more. The tenderness that was evident in the original sketch was lost during the process which is a real shame.

I would have to agree the sketch looks better. Because it appears he's actually looking at her in the sketch, and their expressions seem to fit better than in the finalized version. Though the final one is awfully pretty. :>
