Description one of three illustrations for a sign series...

i did say i'd be doing more experimentation this year..i attempted to mimic art nouveau for this..and failed. XD;; i looked at so many, was inspired much by mucha..but he's a god..*o* XD;

ah well..enjoy.

edit: the colors were eyedropped from a picture of the scorpio/oct birthstone..and that the flower is referenced from a picture of a bunch of honeysuckle flowers. i had to print it 6x17 when the original size was so small..@__@; but you guys didnt' want to read that. i'm just in a sharing mood ;3

edit: drawn w/.5 mech pencil..lines filtered in photoshop and colored in ps. for those that were interested. ;3

I think you did art novueau pretty well. Its a hard art to copy in my eyes. Her hair is beautiful. You used a good shade of red for it.

you're too kind. i butchered it up. mucha's women are so curvy and warm. i only successfully mimicked his color palette, but thank you : D

not reallly...it's a more contemporary version of mucha's style...but I definitely saw mucha when I was wandering through your gallery...don't sell yourself short. (easy to say hard to do, I know)
he and parrish are my favorite illustrators...I only wish I could draw like you do...

i'm actually going to redo the three pieces and make them cleaner and better. mucha's just so spectacularly talented. his influence can be seen everywhere, it's insane.

[link] that's because i never uploaded them here. 8D in a set like this is how it was set up and presented. i need to really redo some of them since i was pressed for time on this project.

I think you got a lot of the nouveau down, the strong lines and muted colors. I like her hair a lot. Redheads just make me happy.

Ooh, a scorpion.

The thick lines look the best on the flowers (I love the smell of honey sickles!). Maybe thicker lines on the girl would help the picture. Also it could be smoother in some places especially around her hip/dress. Her breast on our left, her right looks bigger than the other one, because the line for her arm pit goes up too far I think, and it looks like that is supposed to be the other side of her breast. The coloring on her hair is teh awesome. What is the black on her wrist? If those are supposed to be honeysuckle flowers in her hair I think they are too big (?) they are the size of small lilies. Should they be white like the ones in front? Also maybe the flowers in front should be more to right-- hard to explain. Look at the lines of the picture, how she bleeds off the right side but the flowers are in the center. Maybe move them right? Nice picture

Mm, I really like how the variation in line width works in this; how the flowers are separated from the figure when they might otherwise be lost in the similar color of her dress. And the anatomy is really pretty and graceful. *w* I really like the proportioning of her face, too, how her eyes are sort of normal-size and a bit high, it's pretty. <3 Her red hair stands out so much, too, and really emphasizes her face! I like the peachy color in the background too and yeah I'm done

elfgirlkimmy [2007-01-07 04:52:29 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, definitely a step or two away from your usual (or perhaps a giant leap?).

To hit art nouveau you may need some thinner lines and a crazy detailed background and border around it, but whatever.

Now ignoring art nouveau altogether and looking at the piece for what it is.... My favorite part is her left (on our right, looking at her) arm. The subtley of the color change and variance of the actual colors is gorgeous. A few more highlights in the hair might be nice.

The flowers are perfect. Wouldn't change a thing about them, except maybe incorporate them into the picture a little more, maybe a twisty border or partial border. I don't know.

Anyways, there's your "advanced critique" as encouraged. This is lovely. Keep experimenting, it's how you grow. <3

How do you color like that in photoshop?

It says advanced critique... I'm not so fond of the hair color. Her (me, facing the screen) left breast is bigger.

I like her expression though, that's what got my attention

i like the splotched colors, very nice <3 love the tattoo placement as well. i think this is a good shot for a mucha inspired piece.
whenever i think of mucha i think of how round and curvy his shapes are. your style is much cleaner and sharper, but i think you could pull off something pretty neat if you could find a balance between the two. :3
good job jaduu

oh yah, i tried many times. he's women =/= my women. my professor called it the modern mucha piece..-__-;; but i did have fun even though i fell short of the extensive ornamental vines/leaves/floral motif patterns that mucha used. ;3 it was a learning experience, to say the least. your comments are always appreciated axel luv <3
