Hi there and is not a bother at all, it's nice to found someone interested in doing comic and asking. No problem at all.
I do the sketching, penciling and inking traditionally is easier for me that way, then I scan the inked page, fix some ink details, do the toning/coloring and lettering digitally.
A lot of friends do all the process digitally, I don't do it that way cause I'm not good enough at drawing with the tablet yet (and I'm used to do it my way anyways and I'm quicker traditional way).
I'd totally recommend you to do the coloring process via computer, why? cause you can undo mistakes easily and the scanning process can mess your original colors. Maybe you can try doing the sketching/penciling traditional and the rest digital.
Now for the layout.. there's no exactly a rule, but you have to think in the final size of your comic, that way you can see how many panels can fit there (example: if your comic is small size, like mangas, you can't put like 15 panels in one page, but if the comic has european format, you may).. Mmh, there are soo many ways and reasons why using that or that other panel.
Look, a great comic teacher is Scott McCloud, I'd totally recommend you his work, they're about learning the process and they're fun to read, it's like the bible of comic-doing.

Cool thanks for taking the time to write me back. ;D

Yeah, i find that I draw better traditionally rather then with my tablet, but I want to get better with my tablet.

I sometimes do my drawings in Photoshop, but I sometimes draw traditional then scan the image. I kinda hate doing that though cuz the scans are always so dirty that there is a ton of clean up which sometimes frustrates me. Or if I try inking over the image digitally it seems to take me a while and I feel that the final inking doesn't have the same warm feeling and traditionally hand drawn. I've inked with just pens on a light table then scanned and still have to do clean up, maybe my scanner is just a piece of crap! LOL! XD

I do my coloring in Photoshop, but I still need to improve a lot of stuff like my lighting and my choice for colors especially when shading and highlighting. Coloring is definitly not my strong suit, just started doing it not that long ago, always worked in shades of gray in the past.

I need to study this panles stuff too and get to understand it better.

Scott McCloud, just looked him up, does more of a cartoon based art that I saw, but I'm sure the basic principles are the same just the individuals art is what ever they do. ;D

Does he have books that he sells or something?

Hey there again, sorry for the delay, I've been busy at work.

Well, then to get better you need to practice more and more.
You can always clean your scans, maybe is the way you do the scanning, you can scan using Artline, that way it'll erase all imperfections and leave only the dark lines.. yes, if you do a big zoom it'll look very pixelated but with a good resolution that won't matter, remember that in the scanning process you have to see the contrast and levels, that way you can try to have more control on the dirtiness of each page. Also you can scan the pencils and then redraw over them digitally, that's easier too.
And I agree, at least in my case I like better the imperfections of a hand made inking.
Coloring in my case is pretty hard too, there are books for that as well.
His "doing comic bible" is cartoonish in the style he explains stuff, but the concepts he talks are professional level, he starts from the easy stuff, to the complex stuff and can be applied to any style, very recommendable reading. And of course he has books, he's pretty famous. You can find his books everywhere and they're ain't that expensive: [link] this is his personal page.

Buen trabajo!

O gosh, that snarling face he had in the previous pannels ( before he stabbed the priest) was so hot! Yay! I love his fangs! muwhahaha, I can't wait until he meets the hero's of this story. This guy is such a cool bad guy! He almost looked shocked the entire time before he killed the priest, as if he was playing a game, pretending that he was afraid. Can't wait for more! I am so happy you are drawing more comics again!

Oh! I'm super happy that you liked that face, is one of my favorites too (loved drawing him like that and how was the result), you may not believe me but drawing them with the fangs is hard, most of the time they look off.
I'll soo love when I came to that meeting too.
Exactly his attitude, you read very well his intentions. ^^

Thank you so much and all the darkness is all my brother doing, we tend to discuss a lot about it (I use to like them lighter), but I think it fits better the mood as you say.
(whoa, you've uploaded lot of pics, I'll be checking them later tonight, right now I'm going out).

Graaaaacias.

Me encanto.

JadeGL In reply to Sir-Pumpkinhead [2011-09-17 21:28:12 +0000 UTC]

Sir-Pumpkinhead In reply to JadeGL [2011-09-25 17:38:52 +0000 UTC]

I tried as much as I could to make it look less explicit, but don't worry this will not be the usual style of my comic. This group of vampires are way more rough than my usual ones.
