And continuing in the Pony meets Eva theme, I couldn't think of a better pilot for Eva Unit 02 then Pinkie Pie. Though not being a bitch like Asuka is, she probably goes through as many mood swings, just in the opposite happy spectrum.MLP:FiM Copyright Hasbro

Actually, I've always seen Rainbow Dash as the Asuka counterpart in MLP -- kind of like what Asuka may have turned out like had her childhood not been a complete hell, in a way. Pinkie Pie makes a great Mari though.

Actually I see Rainbow Dash more as Mari, with Mari being the hot-headed psycho fighter, just wanting to rush in and fight like Rainbow Dash. She's also worried about being comfortable in her plug-suit, and trying to win at all costs which I see being more like Rainbow Dash. I don't know, that comes off to me as Mari.
Though I do see your point with Asuka being like Rainbow Dash, I personally can still see Pinkie Pie fitting the role more, even knowing Asuka's backstory. It's like I said in the description though, Pinkie Pie fits Asuka but sort-of in the opposite sense. I still think Pinkie Pie has had as many mood swings as Asuka, being confident and cheery to emo and depressive, and back again. Not to mention they both do rather ridiculous moves in their respective shows.

Hmm, point.
Still, the reason I think that Pinkie Pie would make a good Mari is because she's just such a random element. We really have no idea who Mari is, why she's fighting (besides the obvious, I mean), or who even who she works for if she works for anyone at all. Thus, Mari is a random element, and Pinkie Pie is . . . Pinkie Pie. Honestly, the only character in all of fiction that can compare to her is Rei Ayanami in Nobody Dies.
Besides, Asuka really wouldn't have all those mood swings if she had actually gotten a decent childhood, so that fits in with my previous argument for why Dash is the better choice personality-wise.

*Thinks about it* ...You know what, you make very valid points. I've only actually seen the recent Eva movies and actually haven't seen the actual series, just read up on them. So putting what you said into consideration and what I know, I guess I would have to agree. Rainbow Dash is a better Asuka and Pinkie Pie is a better Mari personality wise. I sometimes forget the whole conspiracy aspect of Eva with Mari wrapped up into that hehe.
I might draw this later then, though the main reason I hadn't drawn a Mari just yet was cause Eva Unit 5 gets blown up so early in the movie lol.

I've only actually seen the recent Eva movies and actually haven't seen the actual series, just read up on them.
Ah, that explains things. I was wondering why you referring to "Asuka's mood swings" as being a major character trait when I can only remember Sohryu rapidly switching moods on two occasions, one of which was a hallucination. Believe it or not she's actually a lot calmer and kinder in the TV series than in the movies, but alas, all anyone ever remembers are the times when she's being a jerk -- how in the world people forget the several episode long arc focusing on her severe post-traumatic stress disorder, for that matter, I'll never know.
Still, you should really try picking up the series when you get the chance. (Quickly! Before the price skyrockets any higher!)

That would look . . . weird. I know there are few designs out there that use the two-legged/wheeled design, but . . . OH! You're saying you're going to keep it on four legs, like a Tachikoma and its movie design. Got it.
And I might look into the series, just need the time~
Better get it quick, even if you can't watch it right away, the prices for the box set on Amazon have been sailing through the roof since last fall.
