Self preservation is a good thing, yes.

On the other hand...he doesn't know how to get back (which is kind of important), he doesn't know who her mother is, and he doesn't even know the economy there, let alone the going rate for a young medusa.

On an unrelated note, I like how all of a sudden they went from "wtf we're not bad guys" to "LETS KIDNAP HER!"  This can only end poorly for them...and humorously.
