Description Nothing super fancy, just a really brief tutorial sharing my process in how I go about painting. Hope this helps someone!Ā
I'll probably be posting more stuff like this in the future.

what kind of brush setting do you use for painting?

they should be above o3o where it says "i set my brush to these settings when rendering"

I've got 1 question, how do you do the background? You don't shade it on the multiplier layer right? You only shade the characters with the multiplayer layer, orr..?Ā

jalajalapeno In reply to Okoe [2016-12-06 15:10:29 +0000 UTC]

Basically I would repeat this same process for the background just underneath all of the other layers (characters, etc). The multiply layer for the character should have already been merged with the flat color later so that things don't get confusing.

oh alright, how about objects, you do them with the background?

It honestly just depends on where they are in the image. But anything that's not a character or main prop I would just count as back ground. As long as everything looks good in the end, it doesn't matter too much.

This was pretty helpful! I now get a better feel of how painting works!
Though, I am still a little lost at the step with merging layers and placing on top of line the line-art. Could you explain that part a little more?

Thanks! And sure thing!
So basically you merge together the multiply layer and the layer with your colors on it. In Photoshop this is down by right clicking and clicking merge below. In SAI it is one of the small icons, should look like a piece of paper with some scissors over it. This will combine the layer selected with the one below it. I do this so that the multiply effect is no longer there, and so that it doesn't create too many layers that my computer slows down.

Ah okay, I got that. In the example, next to the 4th image, you say that once you merger those two layers, you place it above the line art?
It still looks like it is below the line art layer and that there is a blank layer above it. This is where I got a little confused ^^'

oh no, you make another new layer above the lineart, sorry about that I should have made it more clear :,DĀ

Oh, so on that one is were you begin the painting process? I was thinking that you somehow put the merged layer on top of the lines and then paint them in? lol
You color in the lines too? Sorry for the barrage of questions >.<;

jalajalapeno In reply to Wan-Nya [2016-11-26 06:04:46 +0000 UTC]

Yep, I make a new layer over the lineart and colors/shading so that I still can see the linework.Ā
I do occasionally color the lines, and it's something you should do, but sometimes I don't just because I'm lazy >_>

I think I get it now; will just have to try it out to really get a feel of it ^v^
Do you happen to have video tuts or speed-paints?

jalajalapeno In reply to Wan-Nya [2016-11-27 20:05:31 +0000 UTC]

Not really unfortunately :/ The ones that I do have are very old and don't use this method so I don't think they would be too much help.Ā

Aww, well hopefully you can in the future; I would totally love to see it/ them when you do!
I'm more of a visual learner so tut and S.P. vids help me to get the full idea >w<'

Is that Otus and Geddy I see?

Great process, by the way. Brings a lot of life into the drawing.

Yep! I want to do some nice fanart for once :,D
And thank you! It's taken a while to get something that I really enjoy and works pretty fast for me.

Ah I really love small tips like this!
Especially for someone like me who would love to go a more painter-y direction it's nice to see how others go about it

Can't wait to see more of these, hopefully I can do it right ; v; !

thank you! I'm happy it could help ^^
I'll hopefully be able to post some more eloquent and thorough stuff later on more specific topics.
