Great work...the ropes are awesome, make up is really good! But no offense here, it doesn't convince me though. Don't worry it's just me, but she could've looked more like a puppet to me if she didn't open her mouth and the pose was more of awkward, like she's really agitated hanging around, 'cause she doesn't look relaxed at all...look at her right foot...But overall it's a great job!

For some reason, I find this rather amusing. It may be her socks. She's got some awesome socks.

Have you ever been tempted to hang from ropes while waring them?

Good pic
But the right leg isn't connected to the ropes. Not a proper puppet

But... what is proper about hanging a girl from ropes anyway? Sure wasn't trying to be proper

I was worried about her too. She was fine, came back the next week for another shoot, not even a bruise on her.

Congratulations on the excellent shot!
I'm a bit curious as to how you lit the scene, myself. Hard light from camera right from what I can tell? Any other info you'd be willing to share about the setup?

I'll tell you more if you will tell me where you first saw the shot. I got 350+ favs on it in one day, so I'm curious where it is linked. I had two soft boxes on the front, just off to ither side, that was so she could look either way. I knew I would have to shoot fast once she was hanging. Then, as you noticed, a hard light from behind and to the right side. That was goboed from the lens, so as not to get lens flare.

I saw it as a DD on the frontpage of DA. I'm always trying to learn about lighting and people's techniques, so this was a given for me to click on it.
I think if you turned down the power on that hard light, it wouldn't have blown out parts of the white rope so much. Overall though, I really like this. Interesting idea and good lighting.
Thanks for the info.

Sometimes you have to let a little bit of highlights blow-out in order to get some drama in your lighting. I know photography instructors often blast you for that, but not if it makes the shot stronger and is only is a few tiny areas. This hard light from the back and side makes it better than when I turned it down. I did try it lower. BTW, I used to teach photography at Bradley University and UW Wisconsin, studio lighting was one of my classes

I would love to have taken more lighting classes during college. Ball State alum, myself. It's cool you were able to teach. I wish I could go back and take more photography courses.
I can understand your reasoning behind the hard light. Since it was intentional, by all means, proceed.
