Description
This is what happens when you don't market your movie properly. Or more like when you get screwed over by the foreign distribution company.EDIT - 8/9/2012: Huh? What's with all the messages on my folder? Wait a minute, why is everyone comenting on this comic? Oh no, you are not telling me that...*goes to check EqD* SETHIS-TOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Seriously though, thank you for featuring my comic! Again ^_^; But hey, this has actually given me a chance to correct a few mistakes and edit a few things out. Thanks for pointing out the errors on AJ's speech. I also noticed that the word "bunnies" was missing a letter, fixed that too.
I have never done something that got over three thousand views in like seven years. This got more than nine thousand, just today (8/9/12). I am flabergasted. Thank you so much <3

Watership Down is a fucking awesome movie and it traumatized the fuck out of so many kids it's hilarious.

Funny, I watched Watership Down when I was young and it didn't traumatized me.

I need to find the TV series that was made afterwards. Word is it was really well done. Actually, I think I remember catching an episode when I was a kid and being very intrigued by it, but never saw another episode. Really want to find it.

Eeyup. I can't seem to find it, but the wiki states it exists, so I'll keep trying.

Try Amazon.com, and do a search for Watership Down in the "Movies and TV" Section. I found both VHS and DVD versions for it.
I can get the link for them, if you wish. I have them in my own "Wish List".

And disregard the rating, because this is PG.

Thormack91 In reply to jamescorck [2012-08-12 17:57:09 +0000 UTC]
It came out in 1978, which was before the creation of the PG-13 rating. Back then the PG rating went a lot futher than it does now. For instance, the first two Indiana Jones movies were both rated PG.
Heck, I'm pretty sure Spaceballs is actually rated PG.
In short, PG ratings before "Temple of Doom," (which actually led to the creation of the PG-13 rating) should be taken with a grain of salt.

I do know that fact, but I bet they would have given it the same rating as PG, because animation is for kids, you know like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, I Married a Strange Person, and Fritz the Cat.

If the Internet had been around back then, there would be SO MUCH Watership Down fanart, SO MANY fanfics. It would be what we are.

jamescorck In reply to DuplexFields [2012-08-09 18:55:50 +0000 UTC]
I'm pretty sure there is a fanbase for it, and even a con for it. Watership Con.

DuplexFields In reply to jamescorck [2012-08-09 23:52:44 +0000 UTC]
Of course there is. I know some people in the fandom.
But is there a one in two chance of seeing a new piece of Watership Down art every time you view the front page of dA? Is there a community blog updated five times a day with new fanfiction and art and meetups around the world? Are there Watership Down fan bands and a board on 4chan solely to keep the rabbits in their own warren and out of the other boards' gardens?
There was a tv series a while back, but can you imagine a new animated series with Lauren at the helm? I would bleed money to see that.

DuplexFields In reply to haratofu [2012-08-11 03:49:29 +0000 UTC]
Not really. "Tales from Watership Down is a collection of nineteen short stories." They're incredible, but not a sequel narrative. It's sort of like the sequel short story for The Last Unicorn, freely available to read on Beagle's website.

I saw that in my local bookstore once (where I used to live, that is), thought about buying it at the time, then talked myself out of it, saying I'd go back and get it later. Sad thing is, when I did, it was gone. I've been kicking myself ever since for putting off getting it. Thank goodness for Amazon.com, huh?
On another note, did you guys know that there was a short-lived "Watership Down" TV series? I didn't, until an online friend of mine who's also in the TMNT and SWAT Kats fandoms alerted me to it. So I did a "search" for VHS or DVD copies of it, and sure enough! There it (rather, they; there's more than one of them) was; both in VHS tape and DVD-formats.
Not sure of the prices; I can hunt them up again and post the prices and links of them, if anyone wants them.

Are we talking about the 1970's animated movie about adorable bunnies? I never watched it. So, it's bloody, has death, and involves cute little bunnies?...
I think I need to watch this movie now. :3

richfiles In reply to zerohero3d [2012-08-09 19:07:22 +0000 UTC]
Oh, it is GLORIOUS!!!
You don't even understand. It looks at the lives of a group of wild rabbits who must migrate to a new den. Predators, farmers, extermination, death, doe rabbits, social hierarchy and territorial behavior... This movie is a must see, if anything, for it's brutally faithful look at what it is to live and die as a wild creature.
It's a sad movie. It's sad because it doesn't sugar coat the reality of the wild. Think a PBS Nature special... but with voiceovers of the animals!
Add to that, "Bright Eyes" as performed by Art Garfunkel of Simon and Garfunkel...
That song too! Oh do I love that song...
Go into this movie prepared to have manly tears...

Anyway, an amusing comic. But there's one thing that irks me. Applejack doesn't seem to have the right accent here, it reminds me more of russian ("da farm") than southern. I may be wrong and it's nbd though.
