Drawn to celebrate "Applejack Appreciation Day".It feels kind of weird to draw fanart of a recent episode somewhat around the same time that episode came out. I've been so busy with commissions lately that not until now I've been able to draw some, and I have to say it feels as weird as it feels fantastic. I have so much to catch up with fanart wise, especially drawing some much needed pictures of Moondancer.
But Applejack! Applejack is the only one of the Mane Six whom I'd trust with my life. There is a lot of confidence, and safety that her character transmits to me. She's reliable, loyal, truthful, and knows what she's doing. When I saw her working at the farm, preparing rations for the army during the "Crystal War" Timeline, I thought to myself: "She's going to be there for just a few weeks, before she puts on one of those suits and goes to the battlefield". That's why I drew this. To me Applejack is a mare that thrives in the heat of the battle as she does while bucking apples.
Also I was listening to How Applejack won the War all the time while working on this.

Yeah, I liked seeing her as she was in the episode, but it kind of irritated me that we didn't get to see her in action as a soldier in the war. RD gets all the attention in the show for stuff like that sadly despite AJ being just as much of a badass. It was an opportunity sorely wasted in my opinion.
All that asside, this is an awesome picture! I love the intensity of her posture and expression. Very well done.

I agree. I'd like them to pair up for an episode again for a little adventure to really showcase their skills and the dynamic between each other. It feels like forever since they last did anything as an unstoppable duo. I'll happily tolerate the inevitable Appledash shipping if only they'd just reaffirm that the two of them are still friendly rivals and consider themselves respected equals like in season 1.

Why not in the show? They haven't had a joint episode since "Castlemania" and even THAT was the first time since "Fall Weather Friends". I want to see the map send them somewhere or something to show off their adventure skills.
I suppose that the comics would allow more flexibility in what the writers can do, but I still generally prefer the show myself.

Uncle Hasbro is more uptight when it comes to putting things in their TV Show, because it's what everybody sees.
The comics are more free range in this regard, and from what we've seen lately have a lot less quality control than the actual show has. This can lead to interestingly good experiments (The Reflections arc) or disastrous calamities (The Good, the Bad and the Ponies, or The Root of the Problem). So if we were to see a pairing of Applejack and Rainbow Dash, it will more likely happen in the Friends Forever series than in the actual series.

Are you talking about shipping or something? Because the show has paired them up for an episode before. I'm not talking about romance; I'm talking about the map sending them somewhere cool for a friendship problem or something like what it's been doing lately. I want an episode to really show off their awesome moves and how well they mesh as a team and stack up along side each other in terms of their abilities.
Believe it or not, there are a good number of people out there that think that Rainbow Dash is some unstoppable, unbeatable, superpowered action hero and that Applejack isn't every bit as awesome. For whatever reason, they think that just because AJ isn't a showoff that she can't hold her own when compared to Dash. I've honestly had people tell me that Dash is even STRONGER than AJ as well (which, of course, is freaking ridiculous).
I'm just sick of seeing fanfiction and comic writers misunderstand Applejack's capabilities over and over again because the show has never taken the time to address the issue thoroughly enough. It took the show 4 whole seasons to even establish, without a shadow of a doubt, that earth ponies are as magical as the other pony races and that their magic is just more subtle (making them super strong and hardy). We see Rainbow Dash pushing her limits all the time because she's the show's mascot "action pony", but we've never seen Applejack applebuck something as hard as she can even once. They skipped over Applejack in the National Canterlot Rodeo and, for reasons I simply canNOT fathom, Fluttershy was representing Ponyville in the Euestria Games instead of Applejack. I am so sick to death of AJ being ignored on an athletic front in the show. She was established as Rainbow Dash's equal and rival way back in Season 1. What happened to that?
*Sigh* Sorry. It just makes me so frustrated seeing her not get the respect that she deserves. That's all.

I just want her to be recognized for what she brings to the table instead of always playing second fiddle to everyone else.

I fell ya, but I haven't seen AJ's other side as a badass bucking pony like anywhere. I do admit that there are some episodes that I watch are not my favorites but it is because of Applejack. She's the farm pony that has saved her friends more than one occasion. I am also getting used to her countrisms; come on! I used to read a Huckleberry Finn book and some language of countrism was all over the place.

Some day we will see an episode where AJ is badass from the start to the finish, and not just in random snippets. Her performance in "Princess Twilight Sparkle: Part 2" was pretty boss, though. She's a good second in command on Twilight's circle of friends.

AJ has had to go through a lot of struggles. Her right fore and hind legs are gone, replaced by bionic implants. War can do that to a pony, it seems.
