Commission for

“Come on, psyker. Time to do your work.”

Starlight looked up, blind and milky eyes still reflexively opening and glancing around to see who addressed her. She hadn’t heard the commissar, of course— not with her ears, at least. The barking thunder of xenos weapons and the sharp, concussive reports of lasrifles mixed together with shouts and screams of the combatants, combining into an oppressive blanket of sound which lay heavily over the battlefield and blotted out everything else. But of course, that wasn’t a problem for *her*.

Starlight nodded in the direction of the unseen stallion, making sure her blind eyes looked right into his as she did so. She chuckled to herself as the soul-fire burning before her watch-sight curdled green in disgust. “Ready when you are, Commissar.”

Without waiting for a response the psyker snatched up her staff and began to climb out of the rubble serving as a makeshift trench between the Guard line and the oncoming horde of slavering, howling Dogz. Starlight took a deep breath and opened herself, gritting her teeth as the coursing energy of the Immaterium flowed through her. A few shots from the brutish xenos’ crude firearms whipped past her, smacking into the rock and making the commissar accompanying her flinch. At other times, Starlight might have laughed at that— but she was far too busy now.

Power built as the unicorn marshaled her reserves of energy. She could see a thousand ugly alien soul-flares before her, rushing towards her position. A few flickered and went out as Guard lasfire began to tell upon the horde, but it would be few. Far too few, for the mortal weapons. Fortunately, she was a living weapon, forged by the Princesses' will...

“XENOS!” Starlight roared, her voice echoing unnaturally across the valley. Blue fire crackled across her skin, leaving cold trails which would have dazzled her if she still had eyes to see it. “I have stood within the palace of the Throne on Holy Equis itself. Your taint on this planet offends Their Majesties!”

The Diamond Dogz were closer now. Starlight could smell their hot stink upon the air. In seconds, they would be upon the earthworks and it would all be over. Her power built to a fever pitch, almost too much to contain. But she didn’t have to contain it. With a scream she released it all, sending the searing bolts into her foes. In a moment, this would all be over— one way or the other.

“WITNESS YOUR **DOOOOOOOOOOM**"

Finished this piece a couple months ago, and I'm posting it now as part of my "lets catch up uploading all these pics before the year kills us all" plan. I mean might as well, right?

Drawing the lightning was a lot of good fun, and looking at the piece now I forgot the amount of blue light I put into it. I mean don't get me wrong, it fits with the lightning effects and all, but I feel like I could've eased up on the blue a little bit. Thank God for that red bit of cloth on her, it's the only thing (well and the background) that adds some tonal variation to it.

I quite enjoyed drawing this piece really, but as we all do look back and see our flaws I can't help but pointing out mine. Granted, picture's done, and it's finally uploaded! It's not the last WarHam Pones picture, trust me. We're far from done here *evil cackling*.
